First Fill Questions

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill this morning.

I was wondering how much Fluid (cc/ml's) you received?

Also, did you feel the new restriction right away or in a few days?

What was the first thing you thought you could no longer eat?

Thanks for your help!

My Dr. filled 2.5 cc's on my first fill. It did absolutely nothing for restriction. He told me that would probably happen. Don't be discouraged if your first fill or even your second fill gives you no restriction.

My second fill was very different. Again, he put in another 2.5cc's for a total of 5 cc's. I could drink Water but I had problem with Protein shakes that day, so I knew it would be very hard to eat food. I couldn't eat solids for a week after that. Very slowly, I was able to tolerate mushies, then regular food. I am 3 weeks into my 2nd fill and I am down 10 lbs. (I also workout) I still have problems eating solid foods, sometimes it's no problem, sometimes I PB everything. I stay away from bread, or dough, I won't even try honey or any hard food. I still am on soft food.

The hardest part is training my mind to pick smaller portions. I get very upset when I am very hungry and can only eat 3 or 4 bites. My stomache says no more, and it takes a few minutes for my mind to let go, but I am not hungry if I step away from the food. That part sucks.

I had no restriction until my 4th fill.

Per the chart in my doc's office, you are TOO tight...as long as it's working for you, I guess "who cares", right?

But you need to be able to eat a healthy diet, maybe a very slight unfill would make that happen for you? You know best, not me, of course...but maybe your surgeon could give some guidance. I dont' think most of us are supposed to be restricted to only soft foods....too easy to turn to those fattening "slider" foods instead of eating healthy things.

I may be too tight, but I can eat regular food, just not like I used to. Good news is I am scheduled to see my dr. this coming Monday so he will decide if I should get some taken out or get another fill. I am worried about getting the right nutrients in but I do make sure I have at least 2 Protein Shakes a day and a smoothie and v8 juice along with a Vitamin. That way I cover all the food groups. I do know that my band is getting looser now. I am starting to get hungry sooner and I want to eat more.

I had 3 cc left in the band at the time of surgery. He gave me another 2 cc on my first fill. I had minor restriction but nothing that really affected what or how I ate.

I had my fourth fill yesterday. Today is the first day I feel real restriction the way I hear others talk about it. I just had a container of yogurt and I feel full.

Its a long road to get to restriction for most people. Be patient.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
