I was just banded 1-19-09. I'm hungry all the time. If I didn't have the cuts or pain to show I had surgery I would never know. I see the surgeon next Thurs.Does anyone feel this way or felt this way right after surgery? Another question is I have gas and burp all the time.Is this normal? I Know the gas is but the burps and gas are all the time. I thought the gas would of passed by now since it's been over a week now.Thanks....

Yes, I felt hungry after surgery, while I was still in the hospital and that was with a 3cc fill at surgery.

While I was in the hospital a burped so long and loud, I amazed myself. I never had gas issues, until the band. Now I do not have the burping thing anymore, but gas from the other end continue to occur at 2.5 months post op.

Welcome to Bandster Hell! I was lucky, my surgeon totally prepared me for this, I wish yours had done the same. You probably don't have much, if any restriction at this point. Most bands are only injected with a small amount of saline when they are installed (.5cc-1cc) depending on the surgeon. We have to fight, hard through the liquid and mushy phase. It took sheer power of will for me to not fall off the wagon and eat a cow during my first 6 weeks, and that is pretty common.

But please know that this will get better! Once you start getting fills, the band starts to work. It is not easy, but just muscle through until you start getting fills. You will be amazed at the difference.

I was also lucky regarding the gas, I had very little of it. But my suggestion is walk, walk, and when you are done, walk some more. According to the people I have talked to in the past, walking will help it pass the quickest.

Good luck, and maintain faith in your decision! You did a great thing for yourself, and with a little faith and alot of work, you will see amazing results. Good luck!

I am with you!! I had my surgery on 1/21 and am also starving! I get to the full liquid diet on Friday so I am excited. At least then it's yogurt and cream of wheat. I am wondering if my progress seems normal. I am still in quite a bit of pain 1 week later. Mainly on the left side, I believe this is where the port is. Gas is also my enemy! I burp and the other quite a bit..

Thanks everyone. I am walking all the time. It's not gas from anastishia anymore I don't think. I think it's just gas. The burping is all the time.

As for meals,I'm ready to eat anything in site. It's so hard. But I did see the nurse the other day and her and the nutritionist put me on stage 3 for the food.So I do get egg and some tuna along with pureed meats(which I can't get myself to do) So we'll see.

Hi,

I thought my band had slipped or something wasn't right until I found that until the second or third fill you really don't have a restriction and can eat pretty much anything. You have to work past that on your own but I'm sure you can do it.

I just had my second fill and I do feel a bit of restriction now. I've got to tell you at times I wake up in the middle of the night and my hunger just screams "eat something" at me but I've managed to resist on my own. It's not easy, that's for sure.

I've reduced my weight from 326 to 267 in three months by following the doctor's orders and doing a very heavy exercise program. I just past my half way mark to my goal weight and I'm feeling pretty good about my progress. I think I may be over doing it but I feel good and I'm very happy with the results.

What I've found is that the band is a great help but it does not do all of the work. You have to help it by doing what you already know is right and exercise.. I hate exercise too but it's really paying off in my case.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
