Getting Banded Monday

I'm getting banded on Monday 12/29. I'm happy and nervous. My doctor had his team working overtime to help me get the surgery before the end of the year when my insurance will change and I would then have a $1500 co-pay, with my current insurance I have no co-pay but they denied the surgery. I was ready to give up when my doctor's assistant called and said she was going to appeal it, but it was already 12/19. She called me on the 12/23 and told me she called the insurance company and they told her they have 30 days to respond to the appeal, she left it up to me to come in and do my final weigh in case they approved the surgery for 12/29. I told her I didn't think they would approve it in time, why would they approve it knowing that the company I work for was changing to another carrier and I would no longer be insured by them in 8 days and it was the day before Christmas eve. Two hours later she called me THEY APPROVED IT! I couldn't believe it. I had so much to do before the 29th ......with help from everyone I got it done . My doctor called me personally on 12/24 to tell me he was happy for me and he'll see me Monday morning. I found today that he made a verbal appeal to the insurance company. As the surgery gets closer I am starting to get nervous. Any words of encouragement out.

Good luck to all those that are getting banded on Monday! All my thoughts and prayers are with you! Let's all have the best year in 2009! New pres and a new body! What more can you wish for on New years? Cara in KC

I'm getting banded tomorrow, too. I had one week of full liquids and today of clear. I'm so hungry! I go in at 5:30 a.m. with a 7:30 a.m. surgery time. Best of luck to everyone!

Hello, I'm in the same boat as you... I am having surgery monday as well... The ladies at the office got me in before the 1st due to insurance change as well, although I didn't get a denial, BCBS gave me the run around a couple weeks into November and I was worried that I would not get an approval before the first.... Do you have a pre-op diet? Mine is liquids for 48 hours.... I'm getting nervous with a whole bag of mixed emotions... Good Luck

I'm being banded tomorrow as well. I'm glad I found a few people on here going through the same emotions as myself. I seem so scared and don't know why..I see you live in West Virginia..not too far from myself. Good luck, hope to "talk" to you after surgery.

Thank you all for your good wishes. My surgery is late tomorrow, its scheduled for 2:30pm. I wish it was earlier. It gives me more time to be nervous. I am so scared. I will write when i get home in a day or two.

Good luck to all of us Monday 12/29 banders!!!!! :tongue_smilie:

Mine is at 10:30. I have to be there at 8:30 which is pretty standard I think. I was hoping for a really early one so I wouldn't have time to worry. I will keep you in my prayers tomorrow!

We're all going to be a-ok. I'm very nervous and I keep having dreams about FOOD! Ahhhh! lol Let's all get back on here when we can and check in with each other.

Good luck future Banders! There are a few of us getting banded this week, posting under the "December 30th" post. I am December 31st, like Dragon I just made it in before insurance change Jan. 1. We are all a bunch of nerves and can't wait for this week to be over and welcome 2009 as a banded person!

Thank you for thinking about us new bandees.... How is everyone doing? Got banded on Monday, I think yesterday was the worst, feeling much better now, now that I've got pain meds in me, hehehe.....

I am very sore, having trouble sleeping on my side. My surgeon's nurse said to put a pillow under my tummy and that is helping. I have loritab for my pain but I was told to take it easy since it causes severe constipation. I'm on clear liquids for a week...what about you guys?

I was banded Monday too. I'm really sore as well. My one incision is really big...it's the one that is the sorest. It's not the port site though..not sure what that is all about. I have regular Percocet pills for pain, but to be honest the adult rapid blast liquid Tylenol seems to help more than anything. More so that that, infants Mylicon drops have kept my gas situation down. Not sure if you're having any gas pain. I'm supposed to be on anything you can get through a straw for the next week. I was told a lot of Protein shakes, but oh my, they are like gross to me now. I did cream of wheat this AM, added brown sugar and extra milk, it was sooo good!!!!! It went down just fine! I have some awesome receipes for smoothie shakes if you're interested. It puts a spin on them so it doesn't taste like you're drinking chalk!
