Was getting the fill traumatic? The doc had a hard time accessing my port the first time (it was flipped) and I was a little sore for a few days afterward but nothing like what you describe.

I had a similar experience after my first fill, the side of my abdomen where the port is hurt worse than I did after surgery. I followed the advice of a friend who has had the band, she said to do stretches and it would help decrease the pain. So every time I hurt I stretched. The pain eased and eventually stopped altogether. Hope this helps! :tongue_smilie:

It was tough for the first few days... this morning seems to be a little bit easier!! I did lots of tretches and put a heating pad on my port area and just relaxed a bit and It is feeling much better. The fill is working wonderfully and I'm hoping the restriction last for a while looks like 3 oz is my max.

Hi Heather,

Did you ask your doctor if that is normal? At least it would put your mind at ease. I too had a fill, but my port in in my chest. They didn't even have to numb it. No pain after either. Did they do it under x-ray? I know how you feel about the restriction. He put in 5cc, and to drink a Protein shake took me about 45 minutes. I sure hope that the restriction stays!!!!

Hi there I went today and he said everyone reacts diffrent and they may have been my body's way to say " HEY". I have an appt for another 4 weeks for another fill. I'm so confused on how these things work.... How am I supposed to know when I need a fill sooner??? Is it time when I' ready to eat the world?? I just hope 4 weeks is just right!!!:biggrin:

I was told, since he put 5cc in the band, that he won't need to see me unless I am not shedding the weight, other then that he wants to checking band placement as I loose weight. He wants a x-ray ever 6 months. I guess I should feel comforted with that, but the thought of drinking that stuff again......makes me sick to my stomach. :biggrin:

Do you feel the gurgle when you drink something? That is really strange feeling!!!

I was lucky, I never need numbed and never feel anything more than the initial pinch and I am good to go.

I did have one fill where the nurse missed the port 2 or 3 times and was "digging" to find it. She then went on to say that she was surprised that my port is an inch below my big incision scar (isn't that why you feel for it first??). I was sore for a couple of days after that but that was the only occasion.

I was always told that the signs that you need a fill are

1) You are not losing 1-2 pounds a week on average;

2) You are getting hungry between meals;

3) You can eat more than a cup at a sitting.

I felt no pain on my first fill. Did not even feel the needle. Sorry to hear your fill was painful.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
