Hiatal Hernia...anyone have this?

I just had an endoscope yesterday because I was diagnosed w/Acid Reflus (which I can totally handle) and they have determined this hiatal hernia is what has been causing my coughing/vomitting at night since April '08. He stated that basically instead of having my band "pouch" I also have a hernia "pouch" and he suggested that I get my band deflated a tiny bit. Anyone else have this and how are you getting it treated? Also is this something that's normal w/the band? I can't find any of my literature to confirm.'

Thanks!

I read that something like 50% of morbidly obese patients have a hiatal hernia. Mine was repaired when I had my surgery and I feel *so* much better.

Hello! Both my Sister & I are going for LB surgery; I recently found out that I have a "slight" Hiatal Hernia...my sis found out about her Hernia a few years ago. From all that I know (which is limited...my surgery is coming up soon, hopefully in March) the Hernia is a concern, but it is also something that can be dealt with easily. It is quite common for people that are obese to have a Hernia, from what I'm told.

mine was also repaired during surgery and I think it makes a difference

my doc says it does not

but I think I am less swollen

I had the band and the repair at the same time

what is the difference in quick reply or go advanced

Go Advanced let's you keep editing with the full editor and all the options.

I know that the repair of my HH did slow down my recovery (as my doctor predicted) but not having GERD any more made *such* a difference that I didn't care.
