The Countdown Begins-Clear Liquids-ouch!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new I have been on this voyage since last November when I attended a seminar, than went home and thought about it till about June and then went through the 6 months insurance deal and now finally the surgery is set for December 11th and now I need to start the 10 to 14 day clear liquid diet- eeks! if I do the 14 day i start it n Thanksgiving. Oh well I guess there is no time like the present to stop associating the holidays with food! Anyway does anyone have any hints on how to survive the Clear liquids?

Thanks

Jamtte

I found that variety is the key. You will get bored pretty easily with just one flavor so if you can afford it, make sure you find several different flavors to choose from for each meal. I also like to make mine taste like milk shakes. There is a brand at GNC called Max Protein. They have a flavor called "Cookies and cream". I like to use a scoop of that with 1/2 a banana and a cup of ice all blended together. You won't believe how good it tastes.

It has been two weeks since my surgery and I am feeling great. I had liquids for two weeks before and two weeks after. Mostly Optifast products. What helped me through was canned chicken broth that I bought at Sams Club. It was a nice change from chocolate, strawberry and vanilla (I got real tired of the strawberry and vanilla towards the end). It was also nice to have something warm after all those chilled drinks. I also got raw veggies if I wanted and that helped too, having something crunchy.

I told my Dr. that I thought I could make it through, but I wondered what would happen if I broke down and ate something. His reply was "nothing". I made it through except for one evening when I didn't feel well and ended up eating two scrambled eggs with cheese. Most of the time, getting on the scale and seeing the weight go down was incentive to stick with it.

Good luck, you will do great!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
