ok please don't take this as a downer but take this as a heads up from someone who just went through the approval process. I have Aetna insurance and my BMI is 40.1....with Aetna if your BMI is over 35 but under 40 you have to have another co-morbid condition like sleep apnea. So if your doctor doesn't recommend one i would ask him to schedule a sleep study or look for other co-morbid conditions. This will help you get your approval. Aetna told me that if I was chosing the gastric bypass I would have gotten denied but with the lapband because it is an outpatient procedure that is why they approved me. Its frustrating but I am glad I got my approval. I wish you the best of luck on your new journey!!!

thanks ksill18

I may just go self pay because I don't think my Blue Cross Blue Shield will pay for it. I do have other issues like high cholesterol / depression ( I'm on Lexapro) and I'm pretty sure I have sleep apnea. My Dr. was sending me to a sleep study, but I cancelled it because of the cost.

If you have sleep apnea your insurance will pay. You said you cancelled the sleep study for cost but that would be cheaper than self pay for LB right?

Congrats on the surgery date!

I just don't feel like going thru the long process of being approved. I'm in a position where I can self pay, so it's ok with me.
