Hi there...I saw your post this morning and just wanted to say hello. I am local...live in Pleasanton, work in Newark, so I just had to look you up as it's nice to see a local on these boards. I don't have much information to offer you as I'm in the very beginning stages of WLS and don't have Kaiser. But I can send happy thoughts your way and would love to keep in touch along the way. Have a wonderful day!

I am going through the process in South San Francisco. I had hoped to be referred to Kaiser Fremont since I am coming from Gilroy and I think its closer and easier to get to but oh well...

I am curious how the facilities differ. I am really amazed at how different each facility seems to run the program.

So far I have done the orientation, sleep study, Nutritionist apt... next I am going to meet with the MD director and she will discuss how much I need to lose. I am told its usually around 20%. I am hoping to combine that visit with the Psych visit.

Have you done any of your apts yet?

Hello,

I just wanted to see if you have received any feedback from anyone who has gone through the process at Kaiser Fremont? I am in the beginning process and have completed my psychiatric appointment just this past week in Tracy. I will have my surgery completed at the Kaiser Fremont facility but wanted to know what the entire process entails. What other steps will come after the psych? and how long before the surgery takes place? How much weight do they expect you to lose on your own? Hope to chat with you soon!

-Jovan:rolleyes2:

I have recieved my bypass orientation, it is on Nov 9 at 2 and that is as far as I have come. I guess after that I will meet with the director of bariatrics to see if I can get in. then We will see from there so for me the month of Nov. is realy busy I have psyi, obgyn,2 orientations for WLS so I am just hoping and praying it all goes well they want me to lose 20 to 25 pounds before surgery make sure your refferral is in the fremont and after your dr. tells you it is in call them everyday it took me a week from refferal to get my orientation, but Kaiser has you do a lot in order to recieve the surgery EKG, TREADMILL, LABS (i have done two already) and I know there is more more psyic and Nuti and weekly to monthly meetings unsure

Hi sadtobefat-How did your orientation go? I have an overview in Pleasanton next week. Not too sure of the process at Kaiser. When do they schedule the other appointments--like psych, dietitian and so on??? My primary doctor is in Pleasanton, but I live in Fremont.

Hi Delores,

Are you going to Valley Care in Pleasanton? I'm going to have my surgery there with Dr. Lee. So far, the process has gone very smoothly and they really make if as easy on the patient as possible. You can schedule all your appointments in one day and can even do your ed classes over the phone. I'm a couple of days away from submitting to my insurance for approval and hopefully that will be smooth sailing as well. Love to hear from you!

Emily

I received a message from my doctor that I have to do my PAP before he can make any referrals. I found a web page on one of the bariatric surgeon’s page. I gives you the process, it looks very long. My overview went well. Just waiting now.

Hi, my name is Christine and I just got my Kaiser Fremont orientation appt so I have a lot of questions also. In the packet it says that getting this orientation is NOT an immediate approval but just a ticket to futher evaluation.

Hi C-

That is correct; there is still a committee that has to review your package. This includes all the labs, dietician, psyc eval and any other tests your PCP feels you need. You also have to lose about 10% of your weight before you are scheduled for surgery. Are you going to the 12/14 orientation?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
