New to this all!

Hi everyone. My name's Robyn and I'm 25 years old. I've been snooping around on this site for a couple weeks and have just joined. The first step I suppose. I have my first appointment Oct. 8 to speak with the surgeon. My doctor recommended me for lap band because i have failed miserably at losing weight my entire life and now have aquired unusally high cholesterol. I'm currently at 268 lbs.,5 foot 7, and am tired of wearing plus size clothing. I lack a support system for this journey, my fiance does not want me to get this procedure so I'm pretty much on my own. Any help anyone has to offer is much needed!

May I ask why your fiance is against it? My husband is an RN and while he realizes I make up my own mind, he was dead set against gastric by pass, and the lap band (guilt by association). I knew this would entail a lifestyle change and wanted him on board, so he accompanied me to the seminar my surgeon held. He asked questions etc and came away feeling positive and no longer worried. If your fiance is worried about your survival and health, an educational seminar may help!

IF, however, he wants you to stay fat, you're going to have an uphill struggle. I hope that isn't the case!

I think he is just scared of me changing too much and not wanting to be with him any more. He says that all I need to do is eat less but here lies the problem. I have a portion control problem. I eat until I'm full but that usually involves eating an entire (dinner) plate full of food. We've talk about it and he believe in me, whatever I choose to do.

welcome to the board... im pretty new too.. just attended seminar today. My husband is also overweight.. but wouldnt talk me out of anything like this. YES we all do it for a little vanity... But you have an excellent reason to want to change your life. Your choles. being high can really have a negetive impact on your life. Your young... why suffer from those health issues if it is unnecessary... Bring him to the seminar... If he thinks you will leave him.. then maybe he needs to go to a support group for insecurities..LOL thats what i told my husband.. you will be healthier for you and HIM!!!
