Like I didn't dislike my TOM enough already, it so far has lasted an extra 2 days, with no end in sight. Today it is still heavy like it is on the 2nd day, and i've been having killer cramps. WTF?

I know it's not a huge deal, but as heavy as it seems, it could go on for at least 2-3 days more. Maybe just one last hurrah before i hit menapause? lol, i will be turning 40 in about a week and maybe this is mother nature's little "happy birthday" to me?

Seems each of my decade birthdays are "off". When I turned 30 I had just had my first depo shot and the dr. had me on hormones to get things evened back out and my mom thought it was a good time to tell me that most of the women in our family go through menapause early. The hormones made me a mess. Now, my 40th and i am of course a little off due to this neverending period thing.

I didn't get my period for 7 weeks after the surgery, and then it was for 8 days. I normally get it for 4 days. It didn't go back to normal until April. Don't know if that will help you, but I swear the band affects my hormones.

It is common to start having VERY heavy periods in your early to mid forties. You may want to check with your GYN. If it continues you may want to have something done about it. They might want to check on how much blood your losing. This is a really common age that I find women have a hysterectomy or an ablation. It never hurts to have your Doc check it out, and investigate your options. Good luck!

My periods used to be like 3 days super light...now they are like 5 days not as heavy as some of my friends...but heavier then I ever had been...and crappy spotting 2 days before. geesh this sucks.

I'm glad your period seems to be getting better. I have always had horrible periods. I had an ablation at 30. My periods were awsome after that for a while. I had my tubes tied and they went crazy again. My GYN said that it is probably time to do it again. She warned me when I had the first one that because of my age, I would probably end up having to have another one. It is painful at first, but the light periods of a normal person were so worth it.

I can sympathise, as Day One of the misery sets in and I know it will only get worse for the next several days :wink_smile: At almost 46, I can't wait for menopause, but unfortunately I think it's going to be another 10 years before that happens for me. My mother was in her late 50's before it happened for her, as were the women on my father's side of the family, so not much hope of early onset for me. Of course, we were all early bloomers too, and had our periods by the time we turned 10 :thumbup:, so 45 years of the damned things! What's really annoying is that my tubes got ruined from an infection from an IUD when I was only 22 (after having my daughter) and I haven't been able to get pregnant since, so all this pain and misery for the last 25 years (and for the next 10) has been in vain - rats!@!

Hoping this is NOT your case, but...

I started having heavier periods in my late 30's and early 40's (I'm now 45). I thought nothing of it until it got to the point where I would stand up from a sitting position and would get a "flood" that ruined my clothes.

I went to my gynecologist and they did an ultrasound. Turns out I had a fibroid tumor. They run in my family - my mom had to have a hysterectomy because of them, and my sister was headed down the same road, but other health problems took her from us early.

It "spontaneously" passed with no trouble - and now I'm very attentive to my periods, their duration and quantity. I hope that is NOT your situation, but it's worth checking into - especially if there is any family history of it.
