Have you had your first fill yet? I had my second fill and it seems to really speed up the weight loss!!! I was banded june 20 2008. Good luck to you!

Hi Bandded,

I was banded June 4, 2008. Look at it this way . . . 5 pounds is 5 pounds and it's 5 pounds less than you weighed before. Have you ever SEEN the volume of 5 pounds of fat? They used to show us what 5 pounds of fat looked like at the old Jenny Craig meetings. It's actually quite significant.

I've lost a fairly significant amount of weight, but some of that was pre-op preparation, some was the actual pre-op liquid diet, and then my doctor had a very conservative and strict post-op liquid diet that I HATED at the time, but I did it, I survived, and it really helped my weight loss. I noticed that some people that were allowed mushies a lot sooner than I did noticed a slower pace to their loss because it's hard to find protein-filled mushies.

I am also on a mission. I workout like a madwoman and I log every morsel of food into thedailyplate.com. Now, some people will say that the band is supposed to eliminate the whole "on a diet" mentality . . . but for me, it is just easier to endure when it goes faster and when I can make it my mission in life to lose the weight. I didn't want to wait to get to my sweet spot. I didn't want to wait for my 3rd or 4th fill. I wanted the weight off NOW.

So, I stick to 1200 calories a day, most of them Protein filled. I exercise for AT LEAST 50 minutes a day if not more.

I'm also really careful to recognize that yogurts and smoothies go down a lot easier than chicken . . . so I'm VERY careful about that stuff.

But how has it been going for you? Are you exercising? Have you had any fills? I think getting the fills is crucial. I've only had one, but my doc was quite aggressive. I had 2 ccs at surgery time and he added 3 ccs (in a 10cc band) in July. I think I get .5 ccs at my next apptmt.

Oh, and to clarify, I am 5'7", my starting weight was 263, on the day of surgery I was 247, and I'm down to 217.5 as of today.

I was banded 6-26-08 and have only lost 11 LBS so far somewhat disapointed.i go for my first fill tomorrow afternoon and im nervous! lol

I was banded June 10th and have lost 15 since surgery.......I have had one fill of 2.2 two weeks ago and I am trying in vain to get another one.

I haven't weighed myself since the fill, I am always hungry and are keeping track of my calories and trying to keep them around 1000 a day, I don't want to get discouraged.

I do know that it may take a few fills to get great restiction, I didn't realize but I was having things like egg salad, salad with dressing, bean Soup and I think that those things are going through too easy.

The last two days I am only trying to have real solid food (egg beaters, ham, chicken) and I seem to be able to go 3-3 1/2 hours.

So I would hang in there, we are on the right track, slow and steady wins in the long run!!!!

I know that I would have most likely gained weight had it not been for the band. It is keeping me in check, yes I wish I had lost more but really until I loose another 80 I won't be happy anyway......so slow and steady is going to have to do.

At least we are not getting bigger!!!!! We can do this!

I was banded June 21st and have only lost 2 lbs. I had one fill of 3.4 in 10 band. I can still eat pretty much annthing. I still am sooo glad I did this because I think I might have gained weight during this time if I hadn't had the surgery. If you read the forum lap band fills you will see that it is not uncommon for people to not lose anything until their 3rd or 4th fill. I wrote down everything I ate for about 7 years calculating fat, calories and carbs and I kept all of my notebooks to prove it. I got so sick of this compulsive behavior that I don't want to do it now. I try to get my 60 grams of protein a day and watch my carbs but it is sheer will power at this point. I have an appt. for a fill on Aug. 20th so I am hoping for more restriction and some weight loss. I have decided to be patient and hang in there. You didn't say if you had any fills yet. Many of us are in this situation and I know I find it very comforting to connect with others who have been there. Hang it there it will work and you will find your perfect restriction to lose weight. We are all here for you.

Hello All!

I had surgery on June 17th. I lost 17 pounds before my first fill, went out of town for a week and gained close to ten and then went out of town a couple of weeks later and lost close to ten! I am still at 17 pounds and I have a fill on the 25th. I am hoping that I will see steady and consistent weight loss start at that time. i appreciate the support from this site and I am eager to be as successful as some of you are! We are in this together!!

I was banded on 6/25 with at 10cc band and had my first fill of 1 cc on 8/5. The weight loss on my ticker below is from when I started the pre-op diet on 6/16 until today. It's all due to making the right food choices when I eat and some willpower. The band is helping with the willpower somewhat, but I am looking forward to the next fill!

I agree, slow and steady wins the race and we learn along the way!

The nice part about the band though, is that when you DO get your fills and IF you follow the band rules, the weight you lost CAN'T come back --at least, not without a lot of extra eating effort.

So if you lose it slow and steady or if you lose it fast, we are ALL winning. Just because I'm losing fast, doesn't mean I'm "losing the race" in the end.

Boy am I glad I was looking at this tonight. I had surgery June 10 and have been very disappointed in only lossing 12 since surgery with a fill under my belt. I'm getting another fill on the 18th and am hoping for some restriction, right now I can eat pretty much anything but bread. BUT, I HAVEN'T GAINED ANY WEIGHT. Something to be thankful for. We just have to keep our chins up.:wink2:

I really do love this thread. Everytime I read all of your responses I am reminded that there are lots of us in the same situation. I know everyone is different but it does seem like most people get their really good restriction on their 3rd or 4th fill. I am really excited for that. Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences so I don't feel so alone. I still have only lost 2 lbs but my next fill is Aug. 20 and another person on the forums with my same Dr. said the nurses will be a bit more agressive if you ask them. I was banded June 23rd.

hey all!!! I had my first fill yesterday!! i was banded 6-26-08, so far i have lost 18 LBS since my surgery date!!! go me!!! LOL the fill was not as bad as i thought it would be...go June bandsters!!!!!!!!

Hello all,

I was Banded on 06/02/08. I have lost 55lbs. It fluctuates between 55 - 60 with what I assume is Water retention or bowl movements. I am on my second fill and honestly I can't even feel the band most of the time unless I touch it. I know my doc & the office personnel look at my strangely when they ask if the banding seems any different and I say no. While obviously it has helped, my eating seems to be the same for portion size, but I eat a whole lot less as far as caloric intake. In addition I do eat a lot better. I think there has only been three times when I have felt a minor stuck feeling, but other than that I do alright. For the past 3-4 weeks I have been steady at 55lbs loss, but I am alright with that, at least for now. I have been reading and see where many didn't start the loss until the 3rd fill or 6cc's. I have 2 and with 3 or 4cc's... Can't remember how much they had when they put it in, but each fill was 1.5 so far. I have a hard time getting the 80 grams of Protein in, but I am dedicated and the shakes help a lot and I like the taste of the 3 I use...Time will tell and I am using the Band as a tool and not as a miracle... Feel free to ask questions, but I am just doing one day at a time.
