What if I have a "sluggish thyroid"?

In the pre op FAQ section of this site it says this----
Will I need to have blood drawn ?
Yes. One of the requirements that most insurance carriers ask for are thyroid function tests (TFTs) to make sure that the reason for your obesity is not a sluggish thyroid gland. A few days prior to surgery you will need to have routine blood work done. If you are on any special medications (such as Coumadin) your MD might require additional blood testing.

Okay, so they test for it. What if my obesity is related to a sluggish thyroid? Does this mean they won't want to do surgery, but fix my thyroid (which I'm on meds for)?
