New in IA

Hello from waterlogged Iowa. I'm new to the board and hope to get a response.

First some demographics...

I'm 38 years old, female, Type 2 non insulin for 10 years. I'm 5'5 and weigh roughly 198. That puts me at a 33 BMI. I'm considering the Lap Band but i'm not sure if my insurance will approve me as i'm not at a 35 BMI with comorbidity. I have Wellmark (BCBS) and I plan on calling them tomorrow but i'm just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with vitals similar to mine and if anyone has any advice for me.

TIA

Kristina

Hello! I am also from Iowa. Where do you live? I am in Northwest Iowa. I also have Wellmark. They have been pretty easy to work with. I had a BMI more than 40 so I easily qualified, but I do remember that if you have a BMI less than 40 with comordities they'll cover it. It's best to call and find out though.

Good luck with everything!
