Dominican Republic for surgery

I am considering lap band surgery in the Dominican Republic. Has anyone gone there. The name of the Dr. is Dr. Lenio. I have talked to people at Global Medical Services. Anyone heard of them??

Where do you live? I know a lot of people on this forum have had surgery in Mexico. Any reason why you're considering DR over Mexico?

Good luck in your decision

my sis is going in august i was thinking of going with her, but i'm scared of not having a doctor to go to when i come home. not to many people who went to DR makes me worried

I've been to Punta Cana in the Dominion Republic twice at an all-inclusive resort. It's gorgeous but then we didn't leave the resort. The countryside we saw looked pretty poor and pretty dirty looking. Then again, I went to Tijuana for my surgery. I'd check into it pretty good if I were you.

I also went to the DR to a resort in Puerto Plata...we took a trip outside the resort...and it is a very poor area. One girl that was staying at our resort tried to go outside on her own and the taxi driver said he would not take her anywhere unless she hired a local as a bodyguard!! I was like WHAT???? Craziness. A beautiful country, very friendly people--- but I really know NOTHING about their healthcare.
