I am on my way to have lap band surgery ....just trying to do all the necessary stuff pre op. I had to get my a1c taken on saturday in order for my insurance to cover it. My question is if my a1c is high will they postpone my procedure until I get it down some?

sorry not tryin to sound stupid BUT whats an a1c?????????

a1c test checks you blood sugar for the last 3 months to see if it has been high low or within normal range.

oh okay is that for diabetic patients?

yeah its for diabetic patients and also used to check to see if a patient is diabetic.

I don't think your a1c has to be down for the surgery, yet I was self-pay. Mine was over 8 when I had my surgery (it's supposed to be below 7). Good luck with your process - Brenda

My A1C was 8.1 before surgery and from the surgeon's standpoint - that was not an issue. One of the things about the lap band and losing weight is that our blood sugars will be under better control and our A1Cs will drop accordingly. Also, I have NEVER heard of an insurance company cancelling a surgery because of A1C.
