How can I be supportive

Recommended Posts

My husband is almost 4 days into his 14 day preop diet and works from home during the week. Before he left I blended up all kinds of Soups, sent him with a gallon on milk and Protein samples, Jello, Water, etc. I dont tell him what we eat while he is gone, but I am really feeling for him. What are somethings you wish your significant others would have done for you or things you wish they hadnt said? I have told him how proud I am of him so many times, I think he is tired of hearing it. I'm thinking the time is going quickly, but I'm the one able to eat. Thanks ahead of time for your suggestions.

Leslie

I appreciate my DH telling me how proud he is of me. The one thing I wish he wouldn't do is bring foods into the house that are really hard for me to control. If he goes out to get in ice cream cone and eats it in front of me it doesn't bother me but if he brings a 1/2 gallon and puts it in the freezer that is really hard for me. He sometimes mindless brings me things to eat that I don't ask for which really bothers me too.

Words of encouragement are key. That's what will keep him going during the pre-op diet. Post-op the encouragement is important too. Cook things that your family lieks but he doesn't like while on pre-op. Ask if he wants to talk about any reservatiosn he's having about the surgery. Go to the doctor'apts. with him. That's a short list, I'm sure there are many other things you can do. That's all I've got off of the top of my head.

My DH has to start his preop Optifast diet in 4 weeks time. My plans are:

no crap food in the house (chips, biscuits) and no nibbly things like nuts or crackers that that he is going to want to eat. For the kids lunches and Snacks at school and after school, I'll have to buy those things in bits and pieces so they're eaten and gone and just go tot he supermarket every dang day.

I am planning on feeding the kids easy dinners, earlier at 5pm or so well before he's home

I'm going to join him on Optifast for dinner, with a big bowl of steamed veges.

I'm going to make a big pot of vegetable Soup, containing the allowed vegetables, and have bags and bags of frozen veges in the freezer so he can quickly microwave a big bowl of broccoli (oh, yummy, lol) if he's just got to eat something.

Hopefully I'll lose a bit of weight too with all that temptation gone.

I went to the seminar with him and to all of the appt except the phyc evaluation and even then i sat in the waiting room. I am really pulling for him. He has lost 80-85 lbs twice and alway gained it back in 6 or 7 months. He has 150 to lose to get to his first goal and then another 25 after that depending on how he feels. Thanks for the advice.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
