This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I don't know why these threads make me giggle like a 6 year old calling someone poopyhead but damn, I can't resist!

Just a Drop discount info

There is a little history here. DS is a WLS type, it is kinda like extreme malabsorption and it makes your poop and farts so bad people could faint. I mean it's HORRIBLE! This is something DSers battle all the time. It's so bad if they fart the stench clings to their clothing. Others complain openly in public restrooms. I'm telling you, it's extreme. They are forever having to keep Fabreeze and specialized products with them 24/7. One bariatric surgeon was telling another person about a patient where he was removing her gallbladder. She farted while under anesthesia and they were gagging in the OR and since it was the middle of surgery, he couldn't leave the room. The gallbladder patient had DS.

He went on to say that if a DSer farted in an elevator, when the doors opened people wouldn't be rushing out of the elevator, they'd be dead.

There are WLS type wars on OH all the time. Bandsters tease DSers for stinking and they tease us for barfing. They are forever insisting they don't stink yet they keep companies like this in productive business! HA

This thread just cracked me up, I've been laughing since I read it. I just can't imagine my husband wanting me to buy EXTREME odor eaters for the bathroom and clothing. I can't fathom this conversation in my home!

It's not funny that DS patients stink so bad, it's not. But if you saw the horrific things they say about us, referring to our bands as laugh-bands, choke chains, if you saw how they degrade and insult banded people for being banded, maybe you would understand my childish laughter going on right now.

If DS patients eat carbs that is when it is apparently the worst. One piece of cake and they get instant gas and clear a building. Yeah, I'll take my choke chain any 'ol day over farts that are lethal and a stench following me each place I go.

Okay, I know I should leave the DSers and their "odor" alone but I just read this. Now, keep in mind a few months ago one of them actually told me that DS makes you turn bad food into good food. Riiiiiiight, if that is the case, why do they need vitamins such as this daily list:

Omg, that is INSANE!! I don't think people with HIV take cocktails as huge as that!

So... if their bodies turn bad food into good, then -- as you said -- why do they need all THAT? And WHY not just eat GOOD food??

Those people sound like they got lobotomies along with their WLS... :tongue_smilie:

but Beth, that's the whole point of getting the DS - you dont HAVE to eat well ... heaven forbid they eat good healthy food... :tongue_smilie:

Silly me! Whatever was I thinking?? :)

Keeping with the vain of this thread, I have had my own poop issues this past week. I apparently hadn't been eating enough veggies with all of the holidays. I also found myself eating a lot of cheese to get my protein. SO, I spent half an hour on the toilet only to get a few rabbit pellets out. Then, nearly died on the toilet a few hours later and passed everything. So, I've been living on veggies and beans the past two days! Bet you are glad I shared!

but Beth, that's the whole point of getting the DS - you dont HAVE to eat well ... heaven forbid they eat good healthy food... :)

Except you do... You don't have to limit fat -- which we've all been conditioned to think of as evil, but isn't necessarily -- but you have to limit white carbs and get in lots of protein. You can't be sucking down donuts all day, for example. You need to eat primarily meat and veggies just like most of us do.

I know a few DSers who are not insane. They freely admit that, if they eat white carbs, their farts can clear the room. They admit that the supplementing regime is heavy. They love their surgery, just as we all love our surgeries, but they understand why other people would want other surgeries.

It's only a subset of DSers on OH who are whack jobs and will not admit ANYTHING negative about the DS. They insist there are no poop or fart issues, that the supplementing is "easy", that their surgery is "the best" because it has the highest average EWL (because that's the only measure that matters, apparently). They also go on about how the DS "cures" diabetes but the other surgeries only put it into "remission" and claim it has a 98% cure rate when studies show it's more like 90% and the cure vs. remission

I feel bad for the people they suck into their little world who get a DS and then have issues with the lifestyle or with malnutrition, but I figure, for the most part, people are adults and can see through their BS.

I think they actually turn off more people than they convert... I know I never seriously considered the DS until I met some reasonable people who had it. Even then, the only thing I like about it over my surgery is that you can eat and drink at the same time and, the way my surgeon does the DS, you can't because the DSers get the same size sleeve as the VSGers. So there goes that advantage!

It's certainly nothing I would be compliant with. They are malabsorbing so they have to take this stuff. I would never cut it as a bypass patient either, I just don't remember to take the silly pills.

Freaky.

I thought the DS sleeve was larger than the VSG? No? I was never sure about that one, I always meant to ask but it's hard finding a rational DS person on OH.

That's my thing. The ONLY thing I have ever been able to take consistently was my birth control, and even then, if I ran out, I would forget to go to the pharmacy.

I have a plethora of Vitamins that probably date back to 1998 that have been forgotten and left by the wayside because I am good for a while and then forget. I could NEVER do those cocktails they have to do!

It started out that way, but my surgeon (and others) have found that doing it with VSG-sized sleeve with a longer common channel gives just as good weight loss but minimizes the problems with diarrhea and malnutrition.

I'm not sure if he does every DS this new way, btw, or if he lets the patient decide which they want. Plus he still puts his patients on quite the supplement regime and says about 10% have malnutrition issues.

I currently take way more supplements than you guys because I screwed up in the early days, causing some malnutrition issues, and also I base my supplements on my labs and I work each number so it's in the middle or high end of the normal range. But, even so, I frequently forget and have to double up the next day to make up for it.

If I *had* to take all these Vitamins to stave off malnutrition, I'd be in big trouble. It's hard enough getting in the 100 g of Protein I need to get my protein levels back up.

HAHA! I have a HUGE cupboard full of vitamins, Protein supplements, and other various supplements. At the time I bought them I swore I would use them. Yeah, right.

I need to clean out the expired stuff someday.

Hey, if you have any unexpired Vitamin D or omega fatty acids, send them to me!

There is NO way I could get 100gms of protein in daily unless I used supplements.

whey Gourmet Choco-Peanut butter... the stuff is fantastic. Want any samples? If so, email me your mailing address. I'm going to the PO tomorrow.

I mix it with Water and it is thick, rich, and creamy. Good stuff, 23gms protein, 120 cal, 3gms carbs. Fantastic stuff.

Hey, if you have any unexpired Vitamin D or Omega fatty acids, send them to me!

I've had such a crappy diet the whole time I was banded that I'm making up for lost time. I have a LOT of joint pain, more than I should for my age. I'm using the vit D. If I can find any omega fatty acids I'll send them.

In the meantime, if you want to try a quality Protein product or two, I'm happy to send them to you. Wayyyy better than that test tube crap you are consuming. ;o)

Isopuke, Matrix 5.0, EAS, and Whey Gourmet have their raw materials tested by a 3rd party to ensure the quality of their protein. Most companies do not do this and their protein quality varies from month to month.
