Drinking Water is even hard

Recommended Posts

I'm one day post op and it seems that I can't drink anything without gulping air with it. Can I mess up my band by swallowing too much air with my sips. I didn't realize how much I gulped, any tricks?? I'm really bloated and everything I try and drink only makes it wose... HELP

Isn't it amazing how we find we do things like this?? My surgeon lucky for me did not have an issue with us using straws, I do much better with a straw.

The best advice I have for you is just to maybe get you a bottle with the sipper top----then tip it til Water is at the opening, and then take a tiny sip....and just keep sipping away. The air will just make you uncomfortable I think.....I don't believe you can swallow enough air attempting to drink, to hurt you. If anyone knows different, I am sure they will eventually see this and respond.

It gets easier as the days go by, Til then....try the bottle and see if it helps at all.

Sorry it has been rough for you! Bloating is normal, and will go down. Whatever you do---just keep sipping, you need the Fluid, do NOT get dehydrated---you will only feel worse!

Sip, sip, sip.....then sip some more. But hey------YOU ARE BANDED!!!! Welcome to bandland!!!

I am one day post op too. Having the same issues. I feel so bloated. All I do is walk from one end of my house to the other and try to make it go away. I'm okay as long as I'm walking or sitting. Getting up and down is so hard though.

Put a dining room chair---a hard backed steady type of chair---next to where you sit and next to your bed. You can use the seat like an end table or night stand, and it gives you something to leverage on to get up, and balance with as you sit.

Helped me, hope it helps you! Was a tip given to me right here at LBT!!

Congrats on your journey into bandland too Texgirl!!!

You feel bloated, because you are. They pump gas into the belly to inflate the area to have room to work. The gas has no where to go, after, it justs takes time to get rid of it. Walk around the house, take small sips of whatever drink your Dr. recommended. Stay hydrated. First four days were my toughest, got much better by day five. I could only tolerate about 1 to 2 oz. of drink at a time.

Remember you had surgery. The incisions might look small, but they worked inside your belly, you have sutures holding the band and port etc.

It will get better.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
