Day 5 post op...some questions!

Ok I am day 5 post op. I was on Lexapro before surgery (had been for a long time) and have continued it post op. I am feeling weepy today, depressed. I don't understand why I am feeling this! Also, since last night I have had a "knot" in my chest/stomach area that will not go away. I have walked, tried to burp, etc. It is really bothering me. Anyone know what this is???

Hi Sherry and congrats on your surgery! I think it's probably normal to feel emotional after surgery, even when you're on anti-depressants. It can be a side effect of the anesthesia, or just from the stress surrounding the surgery and absorbing the enormity of your decision. So be good to yourself. As for the "knot", I had that off and on myself in the first week after surgery. It is likely gas. Have you tried Gas X strips? They helped me a lot. Also watch how fast you're sipping your liquids. If it hurts, then you need to call your surgeon. Hope this helps & good luck!

Thank you for answering me! I have wondered if it was gas, I am sending my daughter out to get some GasX strips. It doesn't hurt when liquids are going down, so that's good!

Sherri, I have felt the SAME way. I thought I was the only one. I have been on Cymbalta for a while but went a few days without it. I know that's not good but I had tried to dump the capsule in Jello ( I almost threw up. I finally got it all figured out though. Yesterday was a bad, weepy, yuck-feeling-day but today I feel great. I think I needed more Gas-X, sleep, medicine, walking, etc. I haven't had any pain medicine today, don't need it. I am also 5 days post-op. My friend is a nurse that has also been banded and she told me that anesthesia could do that as well plus it's just normal after WLS. When I got home from the hospital, my daughter had a huge box of Dunkin Donuts on the kitchen table ( her friend had stayed the night), well, here I am putting away all my broth and Jello and I just started crying like a baby. It was ridiculous. Anywho, I'm feeling tons better now. I hope you feel better soon, girlfriend.
