Lap Band and the "Stomach Flu"

Just curious if any of you fellow bandsters have experienced the stomach flu, A.K.A., Norwalk virus or norovirus disease or Gastroenteritis?? I had it this past weekend and I was pretty miserable with not only the diarrhea but also nausea. I had about 5 dry heaves of vomiting but nothing came up. I was scared that I might hurt the band with the dry heaving and all. After I heaved and I couldn't bring anything up, it went back to coming out the other end. I hear that with this problem, your stomach and intestines can swell up. I did feel more tight than usual. Anyways, hope it didn’t hurt the band and glad I keep Pepto Bismal handy. Please tell me that your badn was ok if you experienced this. thanks.

I was banded just a little over two weeks ago and on post op day 14....was blessed with the most violent stomach bug ever!!! I see surgeon monday. I didn't feel tight after...I feel just about the same. I hope I didn't do damage.

Wow, I just got over the flu and was miserable. I was retching blood and still not able to vomit what my stomach wanted to get rid of. I can't believe this wasn't discussed in any of my pre-op talks. So glad I rarely get sick. This weekend was the most miserable I've been. Thought I was gonna need to check in at the ER.

keep anti nausea med in your medicine cabinet at allll times!! i have the liquid and tablets just in case!!

I had the same thing - my body tried to throw up, but nothing came up and then I had the violent diarreah instead. Totally miserable! I used the Phergan suppositories and it was over in about 12 hrs. What other anti-nauseau meds are people taking and are they suppositories?

Ugh....I was so sick this past week also. I had some really bad stomach bug that was causing me to vomit violently and have diarrhea for 4 days. My appetite has finally came back, but my stomach just doesnt feel right. I cant seem to eat much of anything without feeling sick or wanting to vomit more. Tonight my hubby made homemade spaghetti and meat balls, I took 2 bites of spaghetti and 1 bite of a meatball and...I was staring into the toilet. I feel like my food is sitting in my chest and then I have trouble breathing. The only thing that seems to help is drinking water, but only a little sip...otherwise i get the same feeling all over again!! Did I hurt my band?? I finally got some oral phenergan and that seemed to help with the nausea. Im just concerned that I might have done some damage to my band or my esophagus.

:( I'm dealing with this right now. Only I've actually vomitted a couple of times and I dry heaved for a day and a half. Now it feels really tight when I try to eat. I don't know if I slipped my band or if maybe it's just swollen and irritated from all the vomiting, dry heaving, and muscles spasms.....

Same thing with me. Only today was my 4th day. I was finally able to eat something today without it bothering me too much, but it was vegetable Soup and pudding. I'm too scared to try anything more solid. I'm so scared I slipped my band.
