My doctor says that he does the fill in the hospital with the barium swallow. Did anyone else do it like that? Maybe this way they can make sure it is tight enough. What do you think?

Missy, it is normal to have barium swallows although my surgeon only does that when he has a hard time finding the port or if there are other concerns. What your surgeon is doing is just his preference.
