I know that this is a super difficult part of the journey! The hardest for me, I felt. You can get through it! It’s good discipline for after surgery when you have to follow liquids and purées afterward. With that said, I didn’t eat bad food but I had a hard boiled egg a couple of times.

Some people did the chew and spit. It never crossed my mind prior to surgery but it did after. But I was so terrified that I wouldn’t be able to stop myself and accidentally swallow the food and cause a leak or a major problem. So that was an easy deterrent.

YOU ARE DOING AWESOME! You are almost there!

Try chewing on some ice chips, or freeze, or partially freeze your protein drinks, Jello is usually acceptable on a liquid diet - make it with unflavored protein powder, or with a compatible flavored protein drink. Anything that is liquid by the time it hits your stomach is usually OK. If you can, talk to your RD about adding some crunch or chewies to your diet that would be in compliance.
