Not losing enough on the Pre-Op?

Recommended Posts

Hey there everyone. I'm dated to have my surgery 12/5. I've been on the 2 week pre-op diet and have lost 12lbs thus far, and still have a few days ta work on that. I'm 6' 5" @ 431lbs so that makes me at a BMI of 54 I think? My Dr. tells me not too worry about it, that I will be fine, losing the weight that I have -- but I am still worried. Is there such a thing as not losing enough on the pre-op diet?

I'm so nervous about this operation (never been operated on before) but so excited to get this weight off!!!

Hi buckeye----you will soon see as you work your way around LBT, that there are wide differences in the way most Dr.'s approach the band. That includes the pre op diet. There are some who are on liquids for a month prior, and others who have no pre op at all!

Then it is the same with how long they keep you in the hospital, and the diet following surgery! They are all different!

If your Dr. is fine with you doing as you are, then it sounds to me as if you are good! I only lost 8 pounds prior, I kept having the infamous "Last Supper" thinking of all the things I was no longer going to be able to eat!

I found that to be bogus! I can eat it all--just in smaller amounts!!

Losing even a small amount of weight is supposed to have great health effects, including making the liver more pliable I have heard--which is what they need, so they can get to where they need to be to wrap the band around your stomach, and set it in place.

In my case the operation was a breeze--I was up walking within hours, and found recovery to be quite simple. It was not however my first surgery nor anywhere near the most difficult!

You should do wonderfully--it has been shown men lose much quicker, do so with less emotional stress (totally unfair!), and the higher BMI, loses quite quickly especially in the beginning, so prepare yourself for a quick ride! How exciting!!!

Get the weight off, then all you gotta worry about is being so short!!!

Welcome to LBT--good luck--let us know how things go!

Kat

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
