Leakage

So, I was just curious to know if anyone has had any experiences with leakage and any side affects you noticed before hand.

Im on mushy foods at the moment. But yogurts and creamy soups arent doing it for me. So I've been eating eggs only and protein shakes. But lately my stomache feels bloated and lots of heartburn. I hope its not a sign of any leakage happening.

Wow, Eggs may not be agreeing with you right now.

I think leaks usually show up right away.

does your surgeon have you on a PPI? Most put you on one (like omeprazole) for the first 3-6 months after surgery.

I'm not sure, but I am on my 6th week and I feel like everything I eat and drink makes me nauseous including water, and I have a sour taste from my stomach in my mouth. I am starting to not eat from the nausea. Have anyone dealt with this and what did you do about it?

hmm....I thought I answered this, but my response seems to have disappeared (it'll probably show up as soon as I submit this...).

anyway, it sounds like it might be reflux. Call your surgeon's office - if that's what it is, they'll probably put you on a PPI or some other prescription antacid.

as of late, yogurts and soups i used to like are sour to me as well. thats why i opted for just eggs because they were working just fine. until yesterday.

TIB - are you an RNY or VSG patient? If RNY, another possible reason is a stricture. If it's reflux, that could be either surgery - but it's way more common in sleeve patients. Just call your clinic and let them know what's going on.

VSG, definitely will be calling tomorrow to see what they tell me :) thank you!!

I had a leak, but as someone said earlier, it occurred while I was still in the hospital immediately after surgery. They suspected it due to an extremely fast heart rate and high white blood cell count, and it was confirmed by an x-ray after swallowing barium.

I'm not sure whether leaks can occur a few weeks after surgery--but in case that turns out to be the case, you'll be relieved to know that mine was quickly and easily repaired and there were no long-term issues.

I just read this thread, You need to get on track with the proper foods. Try taking a soup and running it thru the nutrabullet then warm it up. Eggs are heavy However if you can tolerate eggs make Egg drop soup. I lived in that for the longest time. Japanese clear soups are also great.

You need more then protein you have to get the other food groups also.

I did go to the doctor today, and he stated the sour taste is coming from whatever I am eating and it will take a minute to see what you tummy like, and he told me to continue taking the Nexium for the reflux.
