Anybody started the pre-op diet yet??

Hi there,

I'm due to start my pre-op diet on 27th November....totally dreading it.

Has anyone started it? How are you doing....What are you doing? Has anyone cheated? Shouldn't really be thinking that way, but when I'm starving I start to get a little panicky and can't seem to cope with life very well. Anyone else have this experience?

I can't wait for the two weeks to be over.

:help:

I start my pre opt diet today Dr. said 1 protein shake morning(unjury vanilla) fruit 4oz lean meat 1/2 cup of veggies and 1 protein shake for dinner

Had the unjury vanilla at lunch and it was very good... so i placed a order for more choco and vanilla.

Kinda cheated today and had one tuna sandwitch on wheat w/ liquid drink but i dont think it will hurt me that bad.

You know, I've heard so many different things about what you can and can't eat BEFORE hand, and I hear of some that dont' go on any preop diet. I think the main thing is that your liver doesn't have as many fatty deposits if you are on a preop diet.

I haven't been asked to do a pre-op diet but I think I will as my surgery date gets closer... Dec 13th... It will only be good I think! So UnJury was good huh? HMMMMMMMMMM....

Ok so I'm on my 3rd day pre-op and I must be nuts....I actually am enjoying this....I have 3 shakes a day, yogurt, jello, ice pops and soup for dinner...it's great...the worst part is drinking a full gallon of water a day. I'm in the bathroom constantly all day long. I just love not having so much to choose from. My hubby of course is complaining that I'm using too much toilet paper...it's always something...hee/hee

Glad everyone seems to be doing so well on the Pre OP.

It has been going okay for me as well. I think it is easier to know that you have limited food choices. I could see it getting old tho.

I really like the slim fast optima in vanilla. I have tried several others altho that is my fave. The unjury is okay and has a high Protein content.

Has anyone given thought to post op clear liquid phase?? Just wondering what people are buying to prepare for this time??

Count down......6 more days!!!!

Well my Dr and dietician are very generous during the liquid phase - anything that will go up a Macdonald's straw I can have. So have favoured milks, up and go, Soups, and will get some seafood tomorrow to make into a chowder (shame to have to blend all that lovely seafood though)

Well after my preop class yesterday, I found out I'll be on ice chips, Water and propel for 3 days . . . and THEN can add broths and SF juice, popcicles, etc. After a week I can add cream soups (STRAINED) and runny cream of wheat or rice . . . two weeks out I can start adding mushies . . . so I don't have much of a shopping list at this point . . . ugh . . .

Chris

it's not going to be easy, but we can make it through! Just think of the skinny person at the other end of the journey!!!

I was just getting ready to blog about this but since when I saw this topic pop up I thought I'd add to it instead.

I'm on day six of a ten day pre-op diet. I have not ever heard of Optifast or unjury. My doctor suggested New Directions -- I suspect they're similar to what you guys are having, powdered junk mixed up in milk -- but man, I have to tell you, these are delicious! New Directions has a seven-day variety pack that contains chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, hot cocoa, and a chicken broth (it contains two of a couple of them, I forgot which ones). I'd have to say they are all really good.

My current diet plan looks like this:

Breakfast: 8oz Meal Replacement

AM Snack: 4oz Meal Suppliment (bar, usually)

Lunch: 4oz meat

Lunch: 4oz Veggies

Lunch: 4oz Meal Replacement

Afternoon Snack: 4oz Meal Suppliment (bar, usually)

Dinner: 4oz Meat

Dinner: 4oz Veggies

Dinner: 4oz Meal Replacement

After dinner Snack: 4oz Meal Suppliment (bar, usually)

Part of the reason for all the Snacks is because my Protein goal was pretty high (115g, daily). On top of all the above, my doctor said I could have all the sugar-free Jello and popcicles I wanted. I was hungry the first couple of days, but after that I've got used to it. I counted everything up and right now I'm having right around 1,000 calories per day. Before this, I was having anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 on average. Big difference!

And now, the bad news. Days 8-10 of my diet are liquid only. You can bet there will be some grumbling in the ol' blog about that.

My surgery is next Tuesday. I can survive anything 'til then.

I just started today and it's going pretty well. I tried lots of Protein flavors and blends over the past month to find ones I would like and can stick with. I use unjury - chocolate with hood calorie counter milk 2x a day (tastes just like chocolate milk); strawberry sorbet mixed with Water and crystal light lemonade flavor (strawberry lemonade); vanilla mixed with water and crystal light orange or diet v-8 tropical splash (kind of like a creamsicle flavor).
