Anybody started the pre-op diet yet??

Hi there,

I'm due to start my pre-op diet on 27th November....totally dreading it.

Has anyone started it? How are you doing....What are you doing? Has anyone cheated? Shouldn't really be thinking that way, but when I'm starving I start to get a little panicky and can't seem to cope with life very well. Anyone else have this experience?

I can't wait for the two weeks to be over.

:help:

Tomecia - looks like you will definitely be meeting your first goal..your 2lbs away. That's great. How long have you been on pre-op?

me too . . . me too . . . I need to go to sleep to turn of my brain! I realized I forgot to buy toilet paper . . . and need to fill my gas tank . . . and need to figure out if I should buy a monthly trolley pass for when I go back to work . . . yadda yadda yadda . . . 24 hours from now I can take my Pepcid and go to sleep for a little while! YEA!!!!!

I started pre opt diet 11/28/07 but started walking 11/16/07 after I got approved, might as well start now knowing that its weigh I will never gain back again

I just started my pre-op diet today, but I only have to do 2 days! My surgery is Monday and I'm on full liquids; jello, most juices, v8, strained cream soups, broth, protein shakes. Why do some people have to do a 10 prior liquid diet and clear liquids only, when I don't? I'm thinking maybe I should have done it anyway! Now I'm worried things aren't going to work as well...

Every doctor seems to do things in different ways . . . both pre-op and post-op. I would follow whatever your doctor says because "we" are not professionals :P I'm finally able to have creamed soups starting Monday . . .and my surgery was last Monday. Some people can come home and have protein shakes and cottage cheese, etc. Each doctor does their own thing.

My dietician suggested a 10 - 14 day preop diet, but the doctor had said in an earlier visit that the people that follow the preop have shrinkage in the fatty cells of the liver which makes the surgery go easier. But that in most cases his patients didn't follow the preop like they should and gained weight. So, I concluded that it was suggested but not mandatory. I followed mine for the most part but did cheat a couple of times. My surgery went fine, and I had no complications. My biggest problem has been the gas pains in my shoulder and it hurts when I burp.
