Anyone just starting the process

Recommended Posts

I went to my 5 hour class on July 12. They scheduled my appointment to meet with my surgeon and go over goals. Staff said start your plan now so you could show your ready. I started my new life style July 16. My appointment is August 29. I plan to have 10-15lbs off by then. The process is 4-6 months. I'm excited and nervous. Starting weight 245. I'm 5'5. I'm from California. I'm getting mine done at Richmond Kaiser. Anyone else?

Congrats! I'm sure it has taken awhile just to get to this step. I hope find all the support you need from friends, family and virtually! I am just stalking and researching my options right now. Good luck with your first goal!

Good Morning I’m new here. I started the journey and life style change June 2018. I listened to what I was told To do. I’ve completed the dietician visits and exercise physiologist. I’ve completed all pre-op testing , I just got my surgery date Aug 21. I have a date for last meet with surgeon and 2 week diet prior to surgery. I’m almost there. I’ve lost 26 lbs and feeling pretty proud of my accomplishment so far. Nervous anxious and yet so excited ,,, too many emotions !! Need encouragement and support I do have family who are there for me. I’ve only told my immediate family and only my closest friends. I have not shared with coworkers. Not sure if I even want to. Although they will see a drastic change in a couple weeks as to what I consume. They know I have been eating Protein and low carb. Had anyone successfully hid this from coworkers?

I have only told one trusted friend. I'm down 25.2 pounds so far, so in reality I do not think anyone has noticed. We do not normally eat together (we have to eat in shifts) so even my eating habits are still pretty much secret.

Once it is noticeable, I'll just say I have been seeing a nutritionist and exercising more.

Good luck! I'm about four months into my journey, but I had to change surgeons so I really started with the current surgeon on June 29th and I'm down 25.2 pounds as of last Friday. I've been able to follow what the nutritionist is saying, cutting out fried foods, starchy veggies, fast food, and alcohol. It has been a major adjustment but I'm finally ready for the change.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
