Worried I haven't lost enough preop?

Recommended Posts

I saw my doctor 4 weeks ago for the first time and 2 weeks later started my preop diet (self funded). My visit was only about 15mins long. I didn't have to see a psych or have any tests other than a blood test. My dietitian was over the phone for about 15mins. I feel like I've been thrown into the deep end and haven't had time to mentally prepare. I wish I'd started my preop diet earlier or had more time to wrap my head around not being able to eat the way I have all my life. I know it's bad but I've slipped up a few times. Nothing terrible, just things like a sandwich instead of a shake. I don't really understand why I did it... But now I'm worried I won't have lost enough. Ive been good the last week but nervous because surgery is in less than 48 hours. What are the amounts people lost on their 2 weeks preop? My BMI is 40.

Also, I'm seeing a psychiatrist now and will be discussing my overeating problems, so please don't lecture or say I'm not serious about surgery because I am.

I lost 10 pounds on the 2 week preop diet. I followed the instructions of lowering my carbs (or so I thought), I didn't realize there were carbs in tomatoes! Once I realized it, I adjusted right away so my liver could be reduced for the surgery. I am concerned for you that you could not follow it though because it gets harder after surgery. I am on the liquid phase now and it totally sucks! I have had enough of broth and Jello. I feel pretty good since my surgery and this is day 5. I haven't had any pain meds since the evening of my surgery and my nurses called me superwoman. I think this has helped with my recovery. Good luck with your surgery but be prepared because you will be limited and it isn't easy!

It gets substantially easier after surgery...at least it was that way for me.

Prior to the sleeve, my hunger was insatiable. Nothing provided satiety or fullness. Upon awakening from surgery, I was no longer hungry. It was as if a switch had flipped.

I'm 2.5 years out and my hunger levels are still low compared to those pre-op days.

I hope this is true. I'm sick of people judging me because I'm hungry all the time. I actually get very sick when I'm hungry to the point of gaging and it causes me to start sneezing. It basically feels like car sickness and the sneezing is similar to sun sneezing (Google). I'm so tired of feeling sick on this diet. Surgery is tomorrow so hopefully they don't care about how much I've lost. I'm in Australia and I don't think they're as strict... Hopefully (:

Good luck, there is a smart quote from a song that says "The race is long, and in the end it's only with yourself". If you care about making this happen, learn to forgive yourself and keep striving.

I will say I've been on a very strict pre-op diet (my surgeon does a full 2 weeks of clear liquids) for 11 days and I'm down 24 pounds. But I am starving all the time. I have been as irritable and unpleasant as I can ever remember myself being. I really do hope it gets easier after surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
