Do you have any small goals?

Recommended Posts

I just had my sleeve done in April. I'm already down to 271lbs and I promised my grandfather that I would get to 250lbs by my birthday (July 21st). After that, I'm going to work towards 200lbs and my main goal is to land somewhere around 189lbs.

What are your goals?

Small goals are great my bestie bariatric pal @Newme17 taught me that. I'm 361 so I want to reach 350 no time frame though just little by little. Smaller ones are more easier to get through because they are not far out of reach. So small ones are great. Maybe 260 in June then 250 by July step by step. I know it can happen.

I think that it's best to avoid specific weight/time goals as that is something we have very little control over (I want to get down to X pounds by such and such date). Rather, stick to goals that you have some control over - walking X miles per week, so many steps per day, an hour on the elliptical - something that will help you get to your ultimate goal.

What happens if you miss by a couple of pounds, or by a week? That can do more damage to your emotional state or your motivation than it helped. By all means Celebrate with something special when you achieve a particular intermediate goal, but try to avoid tying it to a specific date. Weightloss is inherently a lumpy, stop and go affair (rather than straight line) and typically a declining rate over time as we have less weight to move around burning calories. Considering how long we have typically been overweight, does it matter if we get to our goal weight (ultimate or intermediate) in a specific amount of time? Isn't the main idea of this whole exercise to be healthier for the rest of our lives? My preference is to learn how to achieve that goal during this WLS adventure. YMMV

I'm Pre-op... So I have all kinds of goals... hahaha like getting a surgery date for starters which is first and foremost. lol

But I have tons of small goals, that aren't really number related. (maybe this is just a newbie thing but who knows) I was talking to my hubby the other day and I was listing off things I can't wait to do for instance:

  1. Cut/Paint my own toe nails. (Comfortably lol)
  2. Buy pants from a regular store not online.
  3. Buy a bra from Victoria's secret (which I have never been able to do my whole adult life)
  4. Fit comfortably in the seats at the movie theater/concert venue.
  5. Get on a plane and visit my sister who has lived in Utah for the last 3 years and not worry about needing two seats.
  6. Be intimate with my hubs in positions that have been pretty much impossible our whole marriage. (yeah I said it lol)
  7. Be able to hold my baby nieces and nephews on my lap comfortably without them sliding down my tummy ramp.

I could probably keep going on and on, but these are just some of the things that I can't wait to be able to do. My main goal is to just be able to live happier, to live more, and to live longer.

I have a list of 25 milestones and I mark them off as I meet them. I wrote these when I first started my journey at the beginning of my six-month insurance-required pre-op diet 14 months ago. I am up to milestone 24 now. Just 17 pounds to go until goal!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
