Vomiting after surgery

Hi. I had surgery yesterday, March 6, and every time I try to burp or hiccup to pass gass I vomit. I am taking three types of nausea medications, sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. Any advise?

I threw up for my first 2 days also. I was sleeved on march 2, and I will tell you that it does get easier by about day 4. I was super miserable those first 2 days and now I can sip and not feel like

  • I'm still in the hospital, nurses are all telling me it's normal and keep giving me different nausea medicines to help. I guess I just have to get out all the gas for it to stop. I just had the UGI te

  • I had surgery yesterday too. Immediately waking up I started vomitting and dry heaving. I was hoping to go home today but I keep getting nauseous after drinking so they're keeping me another night.

Given how regularly everyone vomits and how much I despise throwing up either I'm gonna try to take some Gravol or just get used to it. Given your body likely feels satiated all the time there's really no other trigger showing you're full or that maybe you sipped Water too fast. It's a learning process all over again.
Also this might be news to you if you've never had GERD but hiccups and regurgitating is not vomiting. It's reflux. Are you on meds for this? Maybe try consuming less but more frequently.

I do not regularly throw up. Just the first two days in the hospital while coming off anesthesia and while releasing gas. If you're regularly throwing up past day three I would say that's unusual and to ensure you follow up with doctor.

The op was one day post op and therefore common in the first 48 hours as others experiences. Anyone routinely eating/drinking till throwing up post hospital needs to slow down and take their time.

No one should have to get used to regularly vomiting. Outside the few days in the hospital, you should be fine.

I actually asked this of 3 surgeons and they said vomiting is fine, and that because your satiety reflex is obfuscated that's the only way to know you're having too much. So I'd highly disagree.

That's fine, all I said was follow up with your surgeon. If they are good with it than that's fine. It's your body's way of telling you something is wrong, so mine just said pay attention and don't get to that point again. To each his own.

I however do not like throwing up, it's painful and not a common occurrence I enjoy. Therefore slowing down a bit should solve that if that's what someone is using to tell they are full. I wish you the best and hope you have nothing but success.
