Sugar drop

Diabetic most of my adult life. Regulated w metformin and byderion. Then just metformin. Since surgery no meds but Thursday it was in the 40s. Today just said low. Assuming lower than 40s. I had some carbs to bring it up. It happened a lot before surgery, but is it common after?
