I am in the pre-stages of getting banded. I have all the blood work done and have had the barium swallow. During the swallow, my doctor noticed a "Very slight hiatal hernia" but it states "no obvious abnormality" on the x-rays. Has anyone else experienced this and did it impede your progress for getting the band?

Since obesity is a huge cause for hiatal hernias many of us had them. Your doc should fix it when he bands you. It's no big deal, just one or two stitches at best. I had one, didn't even know it until after surgery my doc mentioned it.

From what I understand they are quite common, only for the most part, people aren't aware that they have a hernia.

My surgeon repaired a large one on me when he did the lapband surgery. I had absolutely no symptoms and was totally surprised when he told me. He also mentioned that he sees them in about 80% of his patients and that it is very common for him to do hernia repairs with lapband surgery.

You are lucky that you have one before your surgery for the surgeon will fix this when he is installing your band. I have developed mine since having the surgery and that is kind of a drag.
