My name is Ashley. I am 19 years old and going to nursing school. Before middle school, I was tiny, but when I got to middle school all this weight piled on. So, when I was 16 I went to a weight loss doctor for kids to join a program to eat healthy and exercise. Dr. Jefferies wanted to do some blood work thinking I had Cushings. The lab work came back negative for Cushings but positive for PCOS. She told me they usually don't catch PCOS young but since we did we needed to start me on medication early. I was started on Metformin and BC.

I was told with metformin I had 6 months to lose as much weight as I could, I lost 40 pounds, but I gained it all back.

A few days ago, I went back to the WLC and talked to a Dr. Who does weight loss surgeries. I wanted to explore my options and use surgery as a last resort. When he came in we talked about it but he told me my only option would be surgery since other meds would mess w my heart dz and family history.

I start my RN in August for Saturday school and an LPN school full time in October. He said if I have it soon I would lose over 100 lb by the end of the yr. I've been talking to my mom and if I get everything done and have the surgery in August, I should be ready for my full time LPN class.

Has anybody had the surgery with PCOS? What should I expect and can I get some advice? Thank you :)

Welcome Ashley! I think it's fantastic that you're going to address your obesity problem at such a young age! There are many who have had WLS with PCOS. I have PCOS and am still pre-op. PCOS symptoms appear to be drastically improved after WLS. There's a special forum for PCOS Sleevers I believe. Best of luck!

Hope everything goes well! I follow a PCOS group on Facebook which is when I first came out and asked about the WLS. The only response I had gotten was from a lady saying her friend had it, got pregnant, and gained all of it back. But I've seen people who have had it and kept it off after having a baby. But I don't plan on having kids anytime soon. Maybe in my twenties, but not at The moment. Thank you for sharing with me!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
