Just wondering if anyone has struggled post op? I am 1 week post op. I am consuming approx. 60 grams of Protein for the day, along with broth, ice pops and Jello and feel constantly light headed. When I try to walk outside I am fearful I will loose my balance. At night I get headaches and have trouble falling asleep. Wondering if anyone has any tips to help? Thank You

These are des hydration symptoms. I am two weeks post op and the same thing happened to me last week. Make sure you drink enough Water or as prescribed by your doctor. Don't forget to call your doctor's office too.

Good luck with everything!

How much liquid are you getting in? It does sound like dehydration!

Thanks for your reply. I try to get in the Isopure during the day for the Protein, so I'm sure I forgo an adequate amount of Water. I get in about 5-6 cups of Water a day right now. Its really hard to get down more than that with everything else.

It can be really hard! You're a step above what I was doing though. My first week all I had was Water, gatorade, and broth. I had little to no Protein, and none of the others. I saved that for week two. But basically my method is that I go EVERYWHERE with a bottle of Water. If I'm not eating (including the 30-60 minutes after a meal) then I was/am sipping/drinking on water or gatorade. The good thing is that Protein drinks and broth count towards liquid intake (at least with my program it does), and we're required 64 ounces a day. I, admittedly, struggled and still do struggle with that. Next week I'm suppose to go up to 80 ounces, but I'm laughing at that honestly. With my job there's not always a bathroom available, so I have to be careful while working.

Increase your water intake as much as possible! if that doesn't help in a day or two, definitely call your doctor for some follow up questions.

Thank you/ That was helpful. I am so focused on Protein, I was not considering how many ounces per day I was consuming. Will increase that and see how it goes. Best of luck to you as well.

Yes at first your primary focus should be liquids and at a minimum you should get 64oz......your body will be fine for several days even weeks with not getting enough Protein.....but it can not survive without enough Fluid intake. For me it was much easier to focus first on building up my Fluid intake and once I was able to get in the the 64oz a day then I started working on increasing my protein............trying to do both at the same time was too overwhelming.

I also counted Protein drinks towards my fluid intake.....Popsicles, Jello, all count......Good luck and keep us informed on how you're doing.

Add Powerade zero or G2 to you liquid lists and Chew on ice chips, sonic ice was amazing those first days.

I agree. Also try Propel instead of/in addition to Water. When I'm feeling light-headed, a boost of electrolytes will typically fix that.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
