Had surgery a few days ago

I had surgery on Monday and am home recovering. On the first day, I was groggy and disoriented. I slept most of the day, but I did get up to walk and I even did a little deep breathing/coughing. The second day, I walked more and did my breathing/coughing exercises. I was full of gas: I felt like a beached whale. I didn't have pain so much as discomfort in the hospital, from the gas and the incisions. They let me go home that day and I've been sleeping as much as possible ever since. I am so tired. Even to be up and awake for an hour takes so much out of me.

Painkillers make me vomit, so they gave me Tylenol and ibuprofen (super-strength IV formulations) in the hospital. At home, I've been taking regular ibuprofen and extra-strength Tylenol.

Today is Thurs, and the gas has gone down quite a bit. Hallelujah for that. Can't wait till it's all gone.

It is surprising and weird to only be able to drink a little tiny bit at a time. I'm not getting anywhere near 64 oz of liquids right now. Hoping to improve today!

I keep thinking, "What on earth did I do to myself?!"

That and "will I ever feel normal again" were the two questions I was CONSTANTLY asking in those early days post-op. I promise, it gets MUCH better!

I talked to the surgeon and anesthesiologist before surgery because I always get nausea and vomiting with narcotics. Rather than give me Zofran or something like it along with the narcotics, they gave me Tylenol and Ibuprofen both in the hospital (IV) and at home (OTC pills). Hasn't been a problem, but it is kind of odd since normally they have you stay away from IB.

When I drink, I feel gas bubbles in my stomach. Almost like the Fluid I'm taking in is displacing gas in my stomach. Feels very odd.

I'm having a hard time distinguishing between hunger, gas, and mild nausea. It all just feels so weird now.

Now that some time has passed I hope that you are doing well with your recovery. I had my surgery 2/29/2016 and it took me 4 weeks to recover. I had to come home with oxygen because my levels were so low. Than 2 weeks after surgery I was so nauseated that they put me on two different types of meds that made me so tired. It literally took me 4 weeks before I could come back to work and week 5 I was just trying to get my energy levels back. I have had major constipation during this time and major diarrhea at other times. Just trying to find my balance through all of this. Now at week 7 I am experiencing a weight loss stall. Who ever came up with the term that this is the easy way out should be SHOT! Would I do this all over again? Absolutely! But it certainly has been a life altering experience. Sending best wishes!!
