Crazy diets

Just for fun: what's the craziest/wackiest diet or weight loss plan you followed pre-WLS? The diet industry has no shortage of creative programs and gimmicks and I've been victim to several myself.

I think the silliest one I did was Suzanne Sommers' Sommersize (her original diet program). The theory was if you separated your food groups you'd lose weight faster. Carbs for one meal, Proteins for another meal, certain fruits on certain days... it was exhausting.

I also tried weight loss gum. Some confection created in the 90's that supposedly had an appetite suppressant added to it. Didn't do a thing for me.

I tried these high fiber pills called PGX Daily... they were good for me, but they didn't help me lose weight. Although I got a lot more exercise running to the bathroom from these little fiber bombs.

I had a friend ask me to join her in doing "Virtual Lap Band" Apparently they hypnotize you into thinking you've had WLS and you magically eat like you do as if you had it. Needless to say I did not o

I did the extreme calorie limit thing. It was horrible. My mother in law is currently on a diet where you cannot eat carbs and fats together. She uses nutritional yeast and a lot of STEVIA. It is very strange.

Jeez, I had forgotten about so many of these awful regimens and drugs!

One diet I did twice (and lost tons of weight on) was "liquid protein" back in the 1970s. It came in big plastic bottles and was made of horses' hooves / hides ... ugh!

I lost tons of weight. But as with all super-low-cal diets, my metabolism plummeted.

And as with all super-low-cal diets, when I went back on "real food" my eating habits hadn't changed at all. Coupled with my lower metabolism the weight came rushing back on.

Yes, diets don't work.

Wasn't that white goop in the gallon jugs glue??? :) I remember the white glue paste that was made from horses/cows hooves. I loved the smell of it! Maybe I should have eaten it... :)
