Lets get this PARTY started! Oct 07!

Woo hoo - lets get this party started! :clap2:I'm scheduled for surgery Oct 8th! I'm in the middle of all the testing now, and don't expect any problems, plus I'm self pay. My fee includes 16 weeks membership at our local gym, which I thought was cool. The AP band as well, thank goodness. Anyone else got their October surgery date?

lets be honest here....i'm supposed to be dieting now...

Well i saw my nutrionist tonite. She told me that i was on the right track for my surgery and that i should keep up what im doing. Im on a modified Atkins which was was doing now nearly one week before i saw her. I found out today i lost 7lbs on my own. Low carbing and high proteins.. you will still lose, and go on clear liquids 2 days before surgery is what i was told.

I'm going to apologize upfront for whoever I am getting ready to plagiarize. I have a horrible memory. I have to start my pre-op on Mon. I have for about the last week half heartedly been dieting. I read a post earlier about someone who was having similar issues as you. She looked at it as, "You know what? This is the last diet I will ever have to do. This time I can keep it off." After I read that, it was like OMG, that is my problem. I keep looking at this diet as just another diet. Somewhere in the back of my head is "Why bother? All this work and starvation for what? 20lbs. just to gain it right back when the diet stops?" But she's right. I'm not going to gain this back. This hard work will actually be for something. This pre-op diet is the first day of my permanent weight loss.:)

Ok I have to vent a bit...why do they put us on a diet before the surgery...don't they know that we bite at dieting? And as far as the whole farewell to food tour...we i've been having a farewell to each type of food tour hitting all the types of food I like...mexican restaurant, steakhouse, italian rest, chinese buffet...you get the picture...

Anyway, it's two days until the liquid diet starts...(i've been on a diet for 2 weeks) liquid diet will last 10 days...surgery is on Oct. 2.

I'm not quit so positive at the moment...though i know this is the right decision and i'm doing the right thing....just nerves i think.

Ok, i have vented enough...thanks for listening...y'all take care now

They want us to diet to clean the fat out of our livers. The liver has to be moved during surgery. If it is too full of fat, it could tear while they are doing the surgery.

Just found out today that I qualified and my surgery will be Oct.3,07!!

I barely have time to do my pre diet. It seems like my mind has drawn a total blank about what comes next. I thought i was going to have to wait 12 months for approval (so they said when I first called insurance) but I was approved in 4 months! Is anyone else having surgery at Deer River in MN?:whoo:

Can i ask you, how much are you paying? I am self pay, my cost is 17,400

Wow ee Paragirl.... That's alot of money for your surgery.... I'm self pay and it's only costing me $9950 for Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado to do my surgery... That is for everything including 3 months post-op followup care and fills..... Since you are in Arizona, it might be worth a plane trip to Colorado for your surgery... I know there are alot of people who have traveled long distances for Dr K to do their surgery... They have come from Florida to Alaska. One fellow even came from New York so he could be banded on 9/11... There is a link to his web site on the bottom below my signature... It might be worth checking out...

I am in Georgia. My pre-op is Tuesday and we will be paying for everything that day. It is pretty much too late to start over with another doc. Plus, I really trust my doc, and have two friends who used him. I just don't feel comfy doing it elsewhere. Yes, it is a lot of money, but in the long run, worth it.

I am looking at his site right now, I sure wish I had chosen to travel now! The only difference I see in what I am getting for my money is that my doc does one year of post op care for my cost of 17,400

Paragirl.... I fully understand that... Having full faith and confidence in your Dr is worth way more than the cost.... I didn't realize you were in Georgia, for some reason I was thinking that you were closer... Sorry

How are your friends doing with their bands? Have they had them very long?

One of my friends I met after the weight loss, she looked awesome, I did see the before photos and she looked like a whole new person. The other one I met within a week of going in for the surgery, that was about 2 1/2 years ago, she is doing great, it took her a while to get on the wagon and eat correctly, but she is a success. The other girl is the daughter of a friend of mine, she had hers done 6 months ago and has lost 36 pounds, but has not really gotten motivated until now that she can see the loss and is trying harder. SHe is young and didnt really follow all of the rules, but 36 pounds is still good...as long as the needle goes down on the scale, right?

That is neat that one is at her goal weight... Don't ya just love those before and after pictures? The other one that is finally eating properly, hopefully is losing weight and close to goal at 2 1/2 years out..... Your friends daughter is young and doesn't realize that the band is a committment... But what the heck 36 pounds lost is good, since she really hasn't worked at it...

Hey paragirl.... Just for the fun of it, try calling Dr. K's office tomorrow and see how long it would be to get a surgery date.. It may not be to late to change your mind... :) Just a thought...
