I had to have my last pre-op bw and they said I have h pylori and need to do a breathing test. I have to stop prilosec 10 days prior. What if I stop 5 days? Is this common. I can never win

You need to ask at your doctor's office about stopping prilosec five days prior rather than 10. I know nothing of H. pylori, prilosec or breathing tests, but it seems that you're asking a medical question or, if you follow your own desire, you may negatively affect the breathing test.

Did you finish the treatment for the h pylori? I had to take a 2 week course of antibiotics/ppi and then wait 2 more weeks to do the breath test to make sure it was gone. I wasn't allowed to take any antacids the two weeks before because I was told it can produce a false negative on the breath test.
