  1. I'm 4 days post op and wondering about how long it should be taking me to finish a shake. Preop I drank them fast because I don't like the taste and I could gulp with a straw. Now I'm having a hard time drinking them.
  2. I am 7 days post op and still in a lot of pain at the site of my largest incision and my upper back. I was in the hospital 3 nights afterward because I have a very low tolerance for pain and a morphine IV wasn't touching my pain and dilaudid only lasted 2 hours on the pain. My surgeon prescribed liquid hydrocodone 4 times a day that I started taking day 3 when I got home from the hospital. I really don't like how it makes me feel so the past 2 days I've cut from every 6 hours to every 12. I have been lightly walking several times a day also to try and get rid of the pain if it is still gas related. Also, I'm running out of meds because it was a 5 day supply and going to call my surgeons office today about what to do. I'm definitely feeling better and not in as much pain as I was but the pain is still too much to not take something. Please let me know how some of you were doing pain and meds wise at this point.
  3. I wasn't even out of the recovery room in the amount of time that they are expecting you to be discharged in! Do you have the option to stay overnight if you are having a hard time controlling your pain or don't feel ready to go home?

    Hernia repair

Did anyone have incisions in their belly button? I just noticed today that I have a few small incisions and surgical glue inside my belly button in addition to my five laparoscopic ones on my belly. Could that have had anything to do with the hiatal hernia my surgeon found or is that normal from the sleeve surgery?

    Any FEBRUARY sleevers?!

That's actually really surprising to me because i couldn't drink anything the first day until I had my upper GI the next morning to recheck for a leak and to make sure there wasn't swelling that restricted liquids from passing through. I also had to be able to urinate and pass gas to leave. I would have felt very uncomfortable with the decision of the hospital to discharge me several hours after surgery.

What Fitness Tracker do you use?

I have a fit bit flex and LOVE it!! I had it for about 3 months and ordered a new band for it and somehow I didn't notice when the clasp opened and it fell off while walking. I called fit bit to see if maybe they had a way to track it or even offer a discount on a new one and they straight out sent me a brand new one complimentary! My sister had an issue with her fit bit flex not holding a charge very long after about a year of owning it and she called Fit Bit and they sent her a complimentary replacement also. Great company!

    Hernia repair

I'm curious to read responses too. I'm 6 days post op and had a small hiatal hernia repaired that my surgeon didn't know about until he was in there. I'm not sure how that is affecting my recovery because i hadn't asked or researched about it in my obsessive researching waiting period pre op!
  8. I had my surgery Wednesday 2/3 and was only supposed to stay over in the hospital one night but it's Friday night and I'm still here. Im having a miserable time getting fluids down and my pain is not being handled by the pain meds that the nurses are giving me (oral hydrocodone and iv dilaudid). I'm stressed and frustrated that my surgeon has not been to see me since the first Thursday morning. I have gotten in 22 ounces of fluids today and i know my nut said it will be hard to get in at least 48 at first but should I be on IV fluids to supplement? I'll take any advice I can get right now.

    1 week post-op

I'm 5 days post op and just starting to feel hungry which is kind of freaking me out. I have had 72g protein and 41g carbs = 522 calories (2 protein shakes and 1 Greek yogurt) I'm sipping crystal light thinking it is head hunger but it doesn't feel like it. Did your hunger go away? I'm scared that my sleeve isn't working.

    Surgery day!

Get up and walk about 15 minutes after you get each dose or or every other dose and walk for a few minutes. I brought a pillow on my walk and kept it pushed against my belly. I found that getting the pain meds and then waiting 15 minutes allowed me the least amount of pain when walking and helped my body to relax and let some of the gas come out in burps. I had a hard time getting the gas out when I wasn't relaxed from the meds and walking. Good luck!

    1st phase post op

Mashed potatoes are not anywhere on my list for any of the phases after surgery because they contain no protein and are slider foods. Something like Greek yogurt would take away that hungry feeling and keep you full.

Milk: the Reason I Look Like a Heifer?

Have you tried the fair life brand milk? It's real (cows milk) and tastes the same as regular milk (I'm picky) lol. The difference is that fair life has 13g protein vs 8 in regular milk and has only 6g sugar vs 12 in regular milk.

    Calories Post Op

I'm only 5 days post op and on full liquids but my NUT has never said anything about a calorie goal... Just carbs, protein, fluids. Right now I'm having a protein shake for breakfast, light and fit Greek yogurt for lunch, and another shake for dinner. This is about 500 calories and meets my carbs under 50g and 60-80 protein rules. I feel like as long as I'm focused on low carbs/high protein calories don't matter too much. I can't imagine that it's possible to even consume many calories on 60-80g protein and less than 50g carbs.
  14. My fiancé was great and did it with me or ate real food outside the house while I was on preop liquids. Post op I am in a lot of pain but my pain tolerance in general is very low. The worst pain comes from drinking for me but it is better if I am walking and drinking at the same time. Where are you having yours done?
  15. Hi! I'm a little further out.. 3 days post op but I too had a hard time with the liquids in the evening. I had been a nighttime snacker and that change threw me for a loop. The first couple of days I had to take a Xanax and just get to sleep! It did get much easier every day!
  16. I did ask for different meds and was originally given morphine which did absolutely nothing. Pain has gotten better overnight and I have been okay on just the oral hydrocodone.
  17. I'm so jealous! I'm 2 days post op and having the hardest time with my fluids. I'm still in the hospital because of it. I have a very hard time with more than an ounce every 20 minutes.
  18. I am 28 years old and was sleeved yesterday (2/3). I woke up in recovery and my pain was like 10,000/10. They started giving me diludad every 10 minutes which kicked in fast and was amazing. I was in recovery from 3:00-8:30 because there were no private rooms available. My nurse was fantastic and I was getting diludad whenever I started to feel anything. I mostly felt the gas which was right near my heart and I kept asking my nurse to check me for a heart attack or blood clot in the heart (hypochondriac much?). She assured me it was gas and gave me a little diludad and I was great again. My nurse was telling me that when i got up to my room they would start me on morphine every 3 hours. Sweet! More pain meds! NOT! Morphine (at east for me did nothing. And on top of the mediocre (never would I ever say morphine is mediocre but it was!)the new nurse wanted me to get up to pee! It was either pee or get a cath. I chose pee (which I had to wake up a few times in the night to do. My first dose morphine was around 10:00pm and by 1:00 am I was shaking in pain. My nurse was great and walked a few laps with me because she figured it was gas and we chatted about how she wanted to have the same surgery and about people she knew that had it. I felt a little better after two laps and went to lay down. My next pain med was die at 4:00am but around 2:30qm I was in so much pain that I called the nurse and was crying and shaking. She called and got permission to give me a dose of diludad and I'm feeling much better! I just had another shot of heparin in my stomach and have a leak test sometime this morning. Then after almost 30 hours I will get something to drink!!!!!!!! (If there aren't any leaks!) I am fantasizing over nice chips. My nurse just said if I pass the leak test, I will get oral hydrocodone/acetaminophen and be taken of IV meds. This scares the daylight out of me. I will update more later. Finally feeling like sleeping!

    My 2/3/16 sleeve

Update: day 2 I had the leak test and was in tears by the end because of the feeling of the liquid hitting my new pouch. Since I passed the test, they started me on Clear liquids and took my iv fluids bag off. I've been walking a ton. Mat least 10-15 laps around the floor 7-8 times a day and it usually helps me get out one painful burp of gas. I was supposed to go home tonight but spent the night again because pain is not managed yet. I was started on the liquid hydrocodone which should last 4-6 hours and only lasts me about 1.5 hours. Then they give me diludad which lasts for 2 hours max. So pain seems like it will keep me again coupled with the fact that I'm struggling to drink 1 oz Water per hour. I know this is going to get better daily and even with the pain and discomfort I would do it over no doubt! Did anyone stay more than 2 nights because of pain management? Also, any advice to get over the fear of drinking water/sipping broth/baby nibbling Jello? I have clear liquids again today and am already fearing the yogurt and shakes that come tomorrow. ????????????
  20. I am one day into my preop liquid diet. I am supposed to have less than 50g of carbs and 60-80g protein. I have had a protein shake for breakfast, light and fit Greek yogurt for lunch, broth, sugar free jello, more Greek yogurt. Anyone else feel faint from it? I'm a 1st grade teacher and thinking I'm going to have to take the rest of the week until surgery off.
  21. Thanks guys! It has definitely gotten easier every day and surgery is in 2 days ????! This is way too tmi but did anyone have issues with the liquid diet when it came to using the restroom? I'm embarrassed to say that I've had to toss a few pairs of pajama bottoms this week due to a cough that was more than just a cough.
  22. Do you mean for protein shakes or just regular fluids? My favorite no sugar/carb is powerade zero and crystal light lemonade.

    Just Curious

At my first appointment I met with the surgeon and he discussed the differences between lap band, sleeve, rny and we decided on the type I wanted...they also took vitals and weight and the doctor did a short exam. Then I met with the insurance coordinator who went through my insurance requirements. My insurance required 12 months of visits with the nut. A week later I saw the nut and saw her once a month for 12 months. During that I also had my 2 mental health evaluations. At my last appt they gave me a date and sent everything to my insurance.

    Coventry insurance

I have Coventry in Florida also... I had my paperwork submitted Friday January 15th and my surgeon called Tuesday January 19th to tell me it was approved. I'm having surgery February 3rd. Who is your surgeon?
  25. My insurance required 12 consecutive months of a physician monitored diet program where I had to meet with the nut every month. I think most insurances are 3-6 month programs. Mine also required 2 mental health evaluation from a psychiatrist and a psychologist. My initial consult appt. was December 2014 and my surgery is coming up February 3rd.
