December 28 surgery update

Recommended Posts

December 28 was my sleeve surgery date. Had to be at the hospital at 7:00 am, for pre-op. I was in a private room after surgery, by about noon, my wife tells me.I woke up to the worst pain I have ever been in, but it honestly did not last too long. The nursing staff had me up and walking a few hours later. I did a lot of walking on my own, after that. I used the morphine pump pretty sparingly on the first day. The fist night in the hospital was terrible. I was exhausted from not getting any real meaningful sleep in the days prior to surgery. Well, the nursing staff woke me every hour and a half or so, for meds and vitals.

Day 2, Very little pain, most of which was gas pain. They took my morphine pump because I had not used it since the prior evening. I walked several times during the day, and I began to have serious shin and calf pain in both legs. I hadn't thought about it, but I was walking sock footed, instead of putting on shoes, which was hell on my legs. I got a little bit of sleep last night, more than the night before.

Day 3, My surgeon came in early this morning, and said that he ordered an ultrasound of my legs, to be sure I did not have clotting. He said if I ate my liquids Breakfast, and kept it down, and my legs were free of clots, that I would be going home by lunch today. I was discharged around 11 am today.I can honestly say that the pain overall, was manageable, and on a scale of 1-10, probably a 2.

Since I have been home, I have drank most of a Protein shake, and some Water. This gas pain is unreal at times, coming in waves. The pain lasts no more than 10 or 15 seconds, then goes away. Again, manageable pain.

I got on my home scale (it is a very accurate, old style doctors office scale, with the slide weights), before leaving home Monday morning, and my weight was 329. When I got home today, I was at 319. When I started this process, my weight was 349. I lost 20 pounds during the pre-surgery diet (I was on it for 3 weeks instead of 2).

Anyone wanting to know more about my surgery, who has surgery coming up, I'd be glad to tell you my experience.

Congratulations on a job well done. Your pain should be controllable with liquid Tylenol. Great way to start the New Year New You????

same surgery date and time as myself. here in Rhode island. they kept me and extra day in the hospital due to nausea issues with the provided Protein powder they brought me to drink. again same issues for the most part with the gas coming in quick painful out of the blue waves so far. but my biggest challenge now seems to be finding something and some way to mix the capsules insides I have to take with Protein milk or Water etc. so it goes down and doesn't taste horrible. latest try was my omeprazole for acid reflux. I mixed it in a 1 oz. cup with my already mixed protein milk. it went down left an after taste but took refilling the cup 4 more times to get all the omeprazole in me and not stuck in the cup.

the next item I get to try day one walking at home by the way is the actigal capsule in 15 minutes.

I still cannot believe that I have had no nausea whatsoever. The gas has really lessened today, I suspect thanks to a couple of BMs. The soreness around my gut is still there, but was to be expected. No pain meds needed today. Best of luck to you, stay in touch!

i still haven't found a solution for the ursodiol; aka actigall capsules. I tried Water yesterday with the powder tasted nasty and smelled worse. tried chocolate premire Protein Powder this morning again tasted nasty. both times tasted so bad I spit it out. tonight I tried crystal light lemonade mixed one capsule with 6 oz. of lemonade then took the 6 shots felt nauseous for about an hr but went down diluted enough to take it. have to try a smaller amount of crystal light tomorrow.

if anyone knows of a clear Fluid we are allowed to drink that can be mixed with the powder from this needed capsule. that doesn't taste completely horrible please let me know in a private message so I'm not hijacking someone else's forum thank you

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
