Most people don't feel real hunger for months after surgery. A smaller percentage do feel some sort of hunger, however.

And then there is the possibility that acid production in the stomach could cause hunger-like feelings; a PPI (over the counter like omeprazole) taken for several months after surgery can reduce this issue.

I personally didn't start feeling hunger until recently (about 1 year out), but it's nothing like hunger pre-surgery.

It's been six weeks for me and I've felt hunger/empty feeling early on. I've tried just drinking Water, but the empty feeling is still there. shakes or an actual bite of something takes the feeling away. It really bums me out that I'm one of the few that feels hungry. Just saying.

Real hunger - very little. If I'm busy during the day I need to remember to stop and have lunch.

Head hunger - this is a challenge, especially if I'm idle. Downtime in the evenings is challenging as my head tells me it's time to snack. I can feel ravenously hungry when I know I am not. I've found that keeping busy and not spending time as a couch potato helps a great deal. Drinking Water, Crystal Light or other liquids helps a lot.

I am 2 1/2 years out and I feel hunger, but I rarely have non-hunger cravings. When I was fat, my hunger/appetite was all consuming and I truly believe it was a hormone thing. No matter how much I dieted, I was always starving except when I took phentermine -- an appetite suppressant. When I took that, I felt much like I do now, only truly HUNGRY when I actually need the calories.

It's am amazing release and I am very thankful for the change. I know when I need to eat but often times, nothing seems appealing. Of course, at times, I WANT to eat something that looks good (old habit), but I am satisfied after a few bites if I even eat it at all.

I am so grateful for this surgery and this opportunity to take back my health. SO grateful.

During my 1st week post op, I was hungry after day 3, if I wasn't "eating" every couple hours. Good thing though was that after I ate a very little bit of Soup (1/4 cup...if that) I was full.

I'm now in purées at wk 2, so I stay full longer and still fill up really quickly. I'm really liking the sleeve so far.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
