Hey! I'm 25 years old and am having a sleeve done on may 13th. I am starting a pre op liquid diet on the 29th and I am nervous. I choke down the shakes they recommended, but they suck. Any reccomendations??

Dear @Steph77498

I just had my VSG surgery last Thursday, and I was nervous too. I'd had surgery before, but not elective. The support you will get is amazing, and they do this all the time. Best advice I can give you is to do everything like they tell you, use the pain meds, sip Water, do your breathing exercises and walk. Walking is the best for the gas and the gas is the really uncomfortable part after surgery. Don't be afraid to ask the nurses for help and advice - they are good friends in the process.

You are going to be great - and starting a new path to health and care for yourself. I just had to keep thinking about the "why" ....it helped me with the low points and hopefully it will help you through the temporary discomforts.

Pre-op is boring - but within 3 days after surgery there is some variety ( not that I have any interest in food at all). During my pre-op I added broths for dinner so it felt like I was having Soup with something warm. And added some fruit to my Protein Shakes and blended. As long as you aren't adding a lot of fruit calories, add some berries to a chocolate shake may make it a little more interesting.

I'm not much further ahead of you - but I am excited for you! :)

Thank you so much. My fiance is very very supportive, but he doesn't understand what I am going through. He tries, and I love him for that. But he has never really been overweight and doesn't really know how I feel.

I use the pre made choc premier shakes. They are 30g Protein and only 160 calories. The chocolate flavor tastes the best to me.

I'm 27, just shy of 4mo post op and down 63lbs! Only 17 to goal. This journey is worth every step!

Thank you both for your kind words. I am on day 3 of 15 of pre op liquid diet. I broke down this morning, cried and boohoo'd for roughly an hour. But, on the positive side, I did not cheat. Does the liquid diet get easier??

no it doesnt get easier :( but just think on how great you are going to feel in a few weeks. All the weight you are going to loose etc. that motivated me alot. I am 2 weeks post ops and i have to admit the hardest week for me was the 1st week. i have lost 22lbs already and this keeps motivating me.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
