Another insurance approval question

My surgeon's office completed all the necessary paperwork and sent it to my insurance company for approval. Will the insurance company contact my surgeon with a response or will they contact me? Just wondering if I should be waiting on a phone call from the surgeon or something in the mail from Humana. Thanks!

@kmd0235 I called my insurance company myself and they actually told me on the phone that I was approved before my surgeon's office had even told me my info had been submitted. Then, later, (a week-ish?), I got a letter in the mail from my insurance company. So my advice is wait a couple of days, then call the insurance company yourself, just to make sure all has been received and is in process, etc. - and you might find out like I did - :o) Best of luck - the waiting game is HORRIBLE --

I too called my insurance company after I knew that my surgeon's office had submitted the paperwork. The very next day my surgeon's office called me to let me know I was approved. It took my insurance company less than 48 hours to approve me.

UPDATE: I'm glad I called the insurance company to check! Turns out they approved me on March 31, the day my paperwork was sent in! They said they faxed the approval to my surgeon, but surgeon's office says they still don't have it, so I'm working on getting the actual letter to them so they can schedule. But the good news is, I'm approved!

That's awesome Kmd!!

I think I will do this too once my paperwork is sent in!!

If you get a May date or even early June send me a message we a have secret group with 40 people just for May/June! :)

Humana approved my surgery within 24 hours of the clinic submitting the request! Humana called me and told me I was approved. I immediately turned around and called the clinic to schedule my surgery! :)

OMG, I am sitting at my desk staring out the window thinking about nothing other than "Will I be approved???" After reading all your posts, I decided to call my insurance company to check. It's only been a week since my paperwork was submitted to Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield so I was waiting to hear from my doctor. But after hearing from you all, I called and was told

@@cooperjack That is awesome! Congratulations!

Ok. Assumed I was approved. Got my date (4/29) some time ago, got my FMLA papers filled out by surgeon and sent in. Today I get letter from insurance co requesting from surgeon - evidence of prior conservative therapies/ treatment and office notes.

Hoping this doesn't cause a problem because I don't have evidence for the last few years bc all weight loss attempts were on my own.

What do I do now? This could set me back several months , I think.

Hi guys. It's cooperjack from yesterday. So yesterday, my insurance told me I was approved but when my surgeons office called today to confirm, they said I'm approved for liver biopsy but have not yet been approved for sleeve. What does that mean? Is it a good sign? Why would I need a liver biopsy if they weren't going to approve me. I'm so bummed because I thought I was approved and now they tell me this. Does anyone have any ideas what this means?
