Hello everyone. I am thinking about doing a gastric sleeve surgery and I'm a little nervouse. I have rheumatoid arthritis for 26 years, I'm overweight and have some heart problems. With arthritis there is allot of medicine to take as well as my heart meds and now cholestarol meds. I am worried about not being able to take my meds after surgery. I was hoping someone could give me the good and bad of this surgery.

I was allowed to continue taking my prescription medications right through surgery and allowed to begin my supplements again 7 days post-op. I never had any restriction against swallowing pills. Just be sure to discuss it with your surgeon.

I also kept taking my prescription the next day for high blood pressure. I didnt have any issues with swallowing pills. As JamieLogical said, make sure to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

I have RA as well....,I was taken off of my Enbrel for two weeks before surgery, two weeks after. That's what both my surgeon and rheumatologist agreed on.

I am dependent on two meds. I took them throughout. My surgeon said the sleeve is best for patients who take meds as there are far fewer issues with malabsorption with the sleeve. If your surgeon thinks it's ok, go for it. Being slimmer can only help you. God bless.
