Hi from Florida

Hello everyone,

I just found this place today. I am desperately seeking some solutions to my weight problem. I've tried everything and recently heard about the lap-band. I mentioned it to my doctor and she had never heard of it. I don't know where to start. I need information on doctors who are EXPERIENCED in Florida. She said she would like for me to look into doctors at Shands in Gainesville. Her brother is a doctor there. I live about 3 hours from there, so it wouldn't be too far to travel.

My insurance is BC/BS PPO. Anyone have experience in getting approval from them? I have no money of my own to pay for this, so it seems a little overwhelming.

Actually the thought of surgery scares me to death, but nothing I try ever works for very long. I can't seem to stick to anything.

I welcome any advice or suggestions and look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to the site! I also live in Florida and am waiting for insurance approval, then I will get my surgery date! My surgery will be done at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Fl (they also have a new center in Naples with experienced surgeons). I know of Dr. Jawad in Ocala who is also experienced and would be closer for you (I'm guessing you live in North Florida). Good luck and keep us informed on how you are doing locating a surgeon!
