Yep, it's a travesty. I have to wait another 7 months before VSG:( My doc has to have surgery, at this point it is unclear if he will even be able to operate at all, although I am not sure what it is that happened to him exactly either. The thing is, I finally came to a decision about a doc. I've looked for several months and found "the one." It took me awhile to get to this mental place to be surgery ready, but I finally am, and now I have to wait 7 months. I know, I know, things could be worse but I am just a bit bummed as the post says. I am not looking forward to carry around 80 pounds of excess weight for another 7 months. BA hum bug.

So, I am trying to see how I can be positive and productive about this. I thought that maybe I could use this time to lose some weight since I have been worried about how losing weight with VSG potentially quickly might result in excess skin. But another part of me like "well, heck, if I could'a did that, I would'a done did that." I have a real issue with food especially since changing vices (alcohol to food). Food been my crutch, feeling out of control with it and having little confidence that I can lose any weight at all. Trying not to gain, that's more of a reasonable goal it seems, but feel pretty powerless.

Negative Nancy in here. Any words of wisdom out there?

I would use this opportunity to see how much weight you can lose on your own! Heck, maybe in 7 months, you'll see such a difference on your own and you won't even want to have the surgery anymore :) part of me wishes I waited, when I went in for my consultation it got approved right away, so I didn't have much time to think it through. Even if your heart is set on having the surgery, using this 7 months to diet and exercise will make the whole process a lot easier. You'll be able to adapt and get into a routine no problem :) good luck!

Well just try not to gain. But you stated you don't inow if he'll even be able to operate in seven months. So, just in case he won't be able to, what is your plan B at that point? Maybe you can start researching another surgeon now, so you will be ready to move forward if you still decide to have the surgery. Best.

That's a hard one...I would find another surgeon too if this is really something you want to do. You could go ahead and try to lose some weight In the 7 months but just remember if your planning on using insurance to cover surgery and you lose to much they will more than likely Deny you if you fall anywhere short of the BMI they want you to have. Even if it's only by a few lbs!

You could use the time to get your head straight from the addictive thoughts. That would be necessary anyway for you to keep weight off long term. I recommend the book, "Emotional First Aid" (the bariatric one) by Cynthia Alexander.

You mentioned he might not be able to do the surgery at all. Since you are ready, I would look for another doctor right away. You don't want to get to the end of the 7 months and your doc not able to do the surgery and regret that you didn't find another one 7 months ago.

@@Ladiec2, I agree. Also, you may want to check out, if he doesn't or can't do the surgery, would your nutritional appointments still count, or would you have to start over?

I agree with @@Ladiec2 -- if he's having such serious surgery that it takes 7 months to get back to 'normal', he may not be back to normal by then -- I'd be looking for a new surgeon and not wait for 7 months to find out he may not be back anyway -- but agree, that is a big bummer :o(

@sleevedup...are you self pay. Because if you're going through your insurance, you can't lose any more weight. Your BMI is under 35 right now. As I mentioned find a doctor now and get it done, especially if you're self-pay. I know that's what I would do. I'm too impatient to wait on something that might not happen.

Is there a Barix clinic somewhere where you live? That is all they do. Center of excellence as was the surgeon. Mine was 2 hours away but I'd go there again for sure. Great, quick experience. Very supportive as that's what. They do, bariatrics. Best of luck!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
