Please help with a question

With mothers day coming up, we have a lunch in a restaurant with my in laws and then dinner at my sisters. I will only be on mushies at that time and none of the aforementioned people know about my band. I have no desire to tell them either.

What to say? My husband suggested telling them I am on a special diet - but that does not ring true to me - I have never heard of a diet where you can only eat mushy food!

Then I thought about telling them I am having problems with my teeth and until I can get it fixed I am on mushy food.

Do either of these sound plausible? Has anyone else been in this situation and what have you done?

Hi Susan I would find out what restaurant you are going to and look up the menu. Maybe you will see something there that would fit the description of Mushie. Or try a soup at the rest. That is what I did when I had to go out for a party at the restaurant. I ended up having the french onion soup and only ate a bit of the bread and cheese. It was a lot of soup so it was looked like a meal to everyone (even though I did not eat it all) and no one commented. Well only to say that they wished they ordered that too. :) If someone does question you ordering soup you can say that your tummy has been acting up lately and so you are just taking it easy.

I"m on the liquid right now and last night I just told a group who asked me why I wasn't eating that I had been seeing a dietician (true) and that she had me on a liquid phase right now (also true).....worked great, no one asked anymore ?????'s:)

-= big smiles=-

You are almost there Susan!! I think if and when I am in this situation I will be having soup!! There are many you likely can have, depending on the menu there. Soup is cool!!

I like the saying... keep it simple and soup seems pretty simple to me... -=winks=-

As for the dinner at your sister's... likely the dental work story would work as my dentist has told me to take it easy on some of the work he has done for a few days maybe saying you have a cracked tooth and so must be careful till you can have it fixed??

I would definitely do the soup thing at lunch....and just say (if asked) that you aren't too hungry. Eat slow and sometimes bring the spoon up to your mouth to make it look like you are eating more than you are. Otherwise, people generally don't notice how much you've eaten off your plate (or bowl in this case!). If they do ask...just say you don't have much of an appetite for some reason (if needed...have a mushie at home before you go out to lunch).

Then at supper time....you can just say your stomach is "acting up" (if they are some of the same people who were at lunch with you...this will make sense from your lunch "story"). Again...have some mushies at home before you go for dinner (so you aren't starving) and then either just pick at something at dinner (if there is something mushie). If there is nothing "mushie" at dinner....just don't eat and feign an upset stomach from lunchtime (ie. something you ate etc).

Believe you me.....people won't think much about it...just have a "story" ready. You can also try the dental thing but then that leads to too many questions and you get into a deeper lie.....

Good luck! You can do it!

I did the not feeling so well, I will just have a little soup. I did play this up the day befoe to make it believable to the inlaws. They believed me, I deserve an Oscar ! LoL

Yasmina....don't forget to thank us all here at the site when you make your Oscar speech!!! And we wanna be thanked at the beginning...not at the end when the music cuts ya off!!

:heh:

I like Dame J's reply to pick something on the menu that you are allowed and if you do have to say something more I go with the least deceptive response like nursing an upset tummy.
