Cant Decided On Which Procedure To Get Had My Mind Made Up For The Lap Band But My Dr..keeps Going For The R And Y...pls Help

My doc pas pushing for the r n y also but i took the band.... ultimatly the decision is yours...you are the only one to make the choice for yourself...life is a little more flexible with the band and the recovery time is quicker with the band...

There is no way anyone would push me into bypass... not a chance. I'll keep my parts.

I would recommend the lap band. I had mine done Oct 30 and I am down 68 pounds. The key is exercise. My sister had gastric 2 weeks before me and she is only 20 pound ahead of me. Lap Band saved my life, and I would recommend it to anyone.

I had the same situation, in fact I Had a thread about it before I was banded. I wanted GB for years, and I finally snapped and said, I'm tired of being scared-I'm doing it. And thus the research begun.. and I found lap-band. And I was relieved.. I could get the band instead! My doctor prefers RNY, and as I said before he doesn't 'push' anything, but he's had RNY and of course swears his life to it.. much like I plan to do with my band

When he does his lectures he tries to encourage people to get RNY. But it was my decision, I wanted the band 110% and in the end he said he thinks I'm going to do great on it and I'm highly motivated

I don't mean to scare anyone but that's the truth. My surgeon has quit doing them. He is only doing the bands. I considered both but was just too scared of what happens to me when I'm 80 with the rny and you don't eat anything at that age anyway and how in the world would you stay nourished. Just too scary.

I work in a hospital and every doctor I ask, recommends the band over the rny. I also have seen many people that I work with who had the rny have multiple problems. There is one girl who has been sick constantly since her surgery.... feels weak, dizzy, nauseated, extreme high anxiety, severe anemia... she told me she wished she never had it done ! At least with the band, if you have any problems the band can be removed.

This is my first post here....I am just at the very beginning of my journey. I am planing to attend my seminar on May 16th. Being in the healthcare industry...believe me....I have done my homework. I was very grateful to find this site because of the honesty of the posters. It's good to hear all sides of the issue. I really love the support that everyone shows to each other.

I have yet to be banded, but must say with all of my research I wouldn't choose any other WLS but the lapband. There are too many complications with all of the other surgeries. The death rate is way to high for my liking. I feel very comfortable with the idea of being banded. I know that when I do get my lapband that I will have made the right choice.

You should look into the sleeve. The bypass is serious stuff. The band works great - but if you don't get a handle on your issues with food, you may have complications - especially if you are an emotional eater! Sure there are ways to go around the band to get what you want with food - but is that the reason you get the band in the first place?? The most healthy outlook about the band is this: The band provides 50% assistance in weight loss. You provide the other 50% by sticking to the plan and not eating things that go against the band, causing distended pouch, esophagus issues and slippage. I speak from experience and I know, first hand, that all my problems with the band that I am going through right now (I am scheduled for band removal) are as a direct result of my food intake and not paying attention. Yea, I am disappointed in myself - but if I had it to do over again.....I would learn as much as possible prior to band about food/band, I would get treatment for food issues (too many people don't like to admit this one) and I would join a HEAHTLY support group, not one that everyone sits around talking about ways to "get around the band"....

I wish you luck. The band truly does work - but you have to do your part...seriously. Don't get lax! Take it seriously - and I also heard there is a new band coming out in June that will replace the old one. Look into it.
