insure nutrition

I've been given this website by others on here who after surgery ordered their protein drinks through them and it was covered by insurance. My question is do they cover protein drinks pre op? I'm going to ask my doctor but I read that high protein prior to surgery is good for quicker recovery as well. Just wondering if anyone's heard that before?

I know you're anxious waiting around for WLS, but I wouldn't make too big a deal about the Protein drinks pre-op. For one they taste awful and your taste for any particular one might change post-op anyway. Believe me, post-op is soon enough.

Besides, I'm pretty sure you have to have a physician write a script for a condition that's covered by your insurance, like post-op recovery.

I've heard so many stories about people and their recoveries. Most good. Some not so good. I just want to do whatever I can to help ensure a good healthy recovery, or at the very least, increase my odds. I'm mean let's face it, we're not exactly in the greatest shape of our lives and we're having major surgery. I'm excited for surgery but also scared a bit about the possibilities for complications. I've been doing all kinds of research and found that taking in a lot of protein is supposed to be beneficial for recovery post op . 6 months of appointments and tests. Holding my breath while I learn the results of each, having my gallbladder removed and realizing the damage I've done to this body. I'm especially afraid for the chest xray as I smoked for 20+ years before I quit in October. I don't want to wait till July to begin my commitments to a healthier me. I want to do what I can and use these 6 months to begin my journey to a healthier body and mind.

I'm on day 5 of a 14 day pre-op, high Protein, liver shrinking diet. All is going very well! I love the Ensure high protein, milk chocolate drinks. They are very good! I could drink them all day long! I get them at my regular grocery store. My insurance is not paying for any of the surgery, so of course, they will not pay for any protein drinks pre-op or post-op. But, I highly recommend this product. It's low fat and high protein, so it will help your liver get into good shape for the surgery. And, it's very filling. I'm not hungry at all! I would highly encourage you to begin these drinks now to help achieve your goal of a "healthier you"! Good luck to you and keep us posted!!!

Thank you for that. Good luck to you too. Would love to hear about your success as well!

Protein is great but pre-op you can get what you need from real food like chicken breast or a broiled fish filet. No need to drink stuff that is made from chemicals and artificial crap like there is after surgery when you can't get what you need from whole foods. IMO.
