Petite portions at Outback steak house!

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they now offer a bariatric friendly meal! It was a grilled salmon fillet that was absolutely yummy with steamed veggies for the side dish. It was about half the size of their normal salmon fillet I'd guess about 8oz which is still a little too big a serving for us but hey they are making progress!

We ate at Outback last night. I saw the smaller portions menu, but I ordered the salmon off the regular menu and brought home over half of it. If I wasn't able to or didn't want to take a leftover box home, I'd go for the smaller portions. Definitely a good idea!

Yes, I see people occasionally post about getting a 'special' bariatric friendly sized meal, but I think (at least this is how I see it now), as long as whatever I order didn't cause some kind of problem, I'd prefer to take it home and have it for lunch for a few days :)

I found that if you are comfortable with letting people know that you had "stomach surgery" then they are willing to let you order off of the kids menu or senior menu. It is just lightly larger than what I need, but I am ok mentally these days with leaving food on the plate. I think that is the hardest part, butI am trying to overcome that....

Salmon was the only thing I saw for petite portions there, but I am sure other restaurants have more choices especially if the have a seniors menu. Also senior menu item s tend to be healthier too, lower in fat.

I've never had any problem with ordering from the kids menu. I do carry a card that my surgeon's office gave me stating that I've had surgery and can only eat limited portions. Since I had the surgery in October, I've only had one person ask to see my card.

I know that Outback will let you order off the kids menu, and it has ribs (5 or 6 in the order) steak, and grilled chicken. I have had the kids steak several times and it is really good. I also love the shrimp and pasta meal with no pasta. ~Mandy
